MDQ has cast of 8, one basic set that never changes and a small band. It's break-even is probably quite low (though I dont recall seeing it published, still it couldn't be more than NEXT TO NORMAL.)
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks." Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
i agree MDQ has a good chance of sticking around for longer just because the cost is very low to put it on. but of course i'm biased and hope it stays around for years
**I don't care what anyone says: I LOVE Million Dollar Quartet!!!!! Favorite** 4/10/10, 4/17/10, 5/8/10, 6/6/10, 6/16/10, 7/3/10, 8/14/10, 9/18/10, 10/10/10, 11/21/10, 12/4/10
"If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn't help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we've got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then admit that we just don't want to do it." -Stephen Colbert
For those who thought NEXT TO NORMAL wouldn't have a life outside Broadway, well it's now playing in 4 cities, 9 different countries and has been translated into 6 languages.
Looks like CFA finally figured out that if they lower the ticket price more people will come. Sadly....too late. Nice to see the numbers up either way.
How do you go about finding what what the nut to a production is. For example WDW how did you know what the nut for ALMN was? Also lets hope that gross goes up because it's not doing too well in that case.

The only way to know for sure is if the producer mentions it in an interview. And even then it's not set because marketing costs can fluctuate wildly, and cast changes can make the show more or less expensive.
But usually people can guestimate based on the size of the cast & orch, the size of the theater and the size/complexity of the set.
Plus for a show like ALNM, the stars are (or were rather) getting a ridiculous percentage of the till. That might not be in the 'nut' per se, but it's a real cost.

people will come see this show but, it seems no one knows about it in the general public and the general public won't pay the top ticket price. who are they advertising this show too? I only payed $45 to see it in ATL then had to pay more than double to see it again in NYC?! It was almost the same price as my hotel room for the night!
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
