Cast Recording must have helped Gypsy.
Maybe a little, but profits went up across the board this week.
RENT sold out! How about that!
SPRING AWAKENING is really hovering on the edge of its $400,000 break-even.

I'm not surprised that Rent sold out last week -- I bet there are a lot of people trying to get one last visit in before it closes.
When I first saw Phantom listed there, I thought, "Holy crap, what happened!?"...and then I looked at the performance number and remembered that they did some technical stuff last week. My reading skills fail.

Wow, huge jump up for Rent... it's only gonna get harder to get tickets as closing day approaches.

Whoopi Goldberg.
Since she only has a week left though, sales should begin to drop after that.

Posted: 9/2/08 at 2:13pmMy non-educated guess is that Spring Awakening will close by the end of the year. With school starting this week, and the fact the new cast doesn't come near the talent they had in the cast last Winter, I can't imgaine that they'll make much money above their nut. It's a very different show (for the worse) since the OBC left. I saw the show a couple of weeks ago with my neices and was shocked at how badly the show had changed.

I actually am a fan of Xanuda- it's a fun campy musical, but sales haven't been great, and the theater is so small, that when they were selling 50% of the seats, I just didnt see how it was making ends meat (...investors?). Whoopi has given it a huge boost, though, I just wonder what she is getting paid.

Posted: 9/2/08 at 2:33pmIs there something wrong with the Phantom of the Opera income post?

Posted: 9/2/08 at 2:41pmPer All That Chat, Phantom put in a new sound system and had fewer shows last week.

Yeah, Whoopi gave Xanadu a nice boost of the summer, but I can't see it lasting much longer without any type of stunt casting.
and poor [title of show] again. Everyone else was at least 70% capacity & $300K(except 39 Steps at $293K). I hope it last a little but longer as I have tickets for Sept. 18.

Oh, [title of show]...it's not lookin' good...
And I hope XANADU starts to do well again steadily. It's a good show with or without Whoopi...a hell of a lot better than THE LITTLE MERMAID which will run 'til the end of the universe no doubt.

Posted: 9/2/08 at 5:19pmInteresing how South Pacific has the second highest average ticket price at $110.00 but the lowest top ticket price of $125.00. Anyone know why that is? Does LC just not sell higher priced tickets?

Posted: 9/2/08 at 5:34pmThink about how it was doing in January when the closing was announced. Look at how it has been doing for the past 2 years at least. Not to well. It's a stale and old show and it needs to close. The only reason it is doing well right now is because people know it's closing and they want to see it one last time so they are all coming now before it closes. You are stupid.

In Drunk Chita's defense... it's just simple supply/demand. Not a Broadway exclusive thing.

Lincoln Center is a non-profit and they do not sell premium tickets.

Posted: 9/2/08 at 7:36pmI really like the fact that The 39 Steps is playing in the boondocks and is pulling in consistently good numbers. It'll be interesting to see if they can maintain through the upcoming leaner months.

Posted: 9/2/08 at 7:40pmKeep in mind that as compared with previous tenants at the Cort, THE 39 STEPS isn't selling the balcony. It is completely not for sale. So the percentages we see are those that only include the Orchestra and Mezzanine.
