FWIW, I don't think the producers ever lost money in any week of the show, but it's nice to see the show end on a high note.

Capacity for the first week of Spring Awakening wasn't bad but ouch that gross aint great especially as its a limited run they need to be making bank.

Looking at Matilda's historical grosses, you'll see that they still pull in very high numbers during the weeks that are typically considered the peak tourist weeks (they were at $1,000,000+ throughout most of the summer). And even their low weeks, such as this past week, are not abysmally low, money-disappearing-with-no-hope-in-sight weeks that other recent musicals have seen throughout their entire run (On the Town, Amazing Grace, Honeymoon in Vegas to name a recent few).

I'm going to pretend the $666 drop is a PR stunt. A brilliant one.
LightsOut90, you seem surprised. Did you really think SA was going to be a commercial hit? You thought wrong.

Amazing Grace seems to be benefiting from a lack of shows right now.
Ouch, Matilda and Finding Neverland have both taken pretty nasty hits (surprised nobody has mention FN yet). Those 2 shows were pretty popular with the tourists I guess.
If these number for Matilda remain as they are, I would also wonder if they were at their end, but considering they had such a great summer, I'm not so sure. Only time will tell, I guess.
Awesome figures for Chicago! What can be the reason for such an increase over the previous week? I would like to think that it's because of the fabulousness of Dylis Croman. : )

Is it?
I would have thought Hedwig made more - I doubt we will see many shows fold in the next few weeks due to the sheer number of shows that are already leaving. My guess is they will try to hold out.

Amazing Grace can't stay open for much longer, can it? The only thing doing worse is Hand to God, which is a straight play in a tiny house that's already announced it's closing.
Matilda just lost lots of principal cast members. If they had any plans on closing, they would've already. And they aren't pulling bad numbers, for a show on it's third year.
It will be interesting to see if Rumer Willis effects the box office.

I just can't imagine Amazing Grace has had one money making week. Who is the producer who is just throwing money away and how can I get him to pay my rent?

I imagine it's never easy to walk away. Particularly if they're inexperienced and getting the industry song and dance about word of mouth and taking time to find an audience etc. General managers, and company managers and pretty much anyone on the payroll will march an inexperienced producer right to the edge of the cliff because it's in their best interests, and it's not like they are doing something bad. It's just how the business works. But... who knows... There's IS an audience for that show. I know people from the south who would just love it. Maybe they'll pull through. I doubt it, but I mean, their numbers are better than The Visit, and that was industry produced, by well known writers, and with a theatre star, so I can understand why they are digging their heels in. Maybe they'll turn it around. And maybe Bernie Sanders will be president lol.

^ not sure about amazing grace but um if you haven't noticed Bernie is polling higher then Hilary in several states.
It's not a very good show. And I don't think word-of-mouth is strong at all. I'm surprised it has lasted as long as it has, but c'mon. It's not getting any Tony noms.

With all of the delays in productions, you never know...it just might. I haven't seen it..but I'm thinking there won't be many options this year.
Tony nominations are not in the cards at all. There's PLENTY of options. For new musical: Hamilton, School of Rock, Tuck Everlasting, Allegiance, On Your Feet, American Psycho, Bright Star, Waitress. And possibly Shuffle Along depending on Tony Committee ruling. Add tot hat the five musical revivals which will go up against the new musicals in acting, directing, and design awards, Amazing Grace will be lucky if the title gets a passing mention on the telecast. It's terrible.

In addition to the shows listed above, the show that will cause the Nederlanders to kick AG to the curb may well be a new musical as well.
