Posted: 9/8/08 at 3:20pmLooks like Legally Blonde might not be the only show to start packing.

I guess now we know why there are discounts for TLM.
Will Title of Show survive this drop? I hope it does.

Someone once told me that an election year is a really bad one for theatre box office in general.
Burn, LEGALLY BLONDE, burn.

Posted: 9/8/08 at 3:24pmum, didn't everyone get a boost from Labor Day last week? and shows dropped this past week because it was back to school time?

OMG that is so bad.
i love lb and all but its going to close and (tos) is not going to make it to june.
is equus gross even enough to rent the house?
grease at 55%? hopefully soon the brooks atkinson will be open.
jersey boys at 95%! thats crazy its sold out nonstop and it went down to 95%.
the disney shows didn't gross what they normally do. mary poppins at 47%.
spamalot at 41%.
i guess this proves that it isn't summer anymore. some houses will soon be open.

And so the after Labor Day slump begins! How long before TOS posts closing notices?
#14re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 9/7
Posted: 9/8/08 at 3:28pmEquus only had two performances though.

Posted: 9/8/08 at 3:30pmExactly. Look at the Average Ticket Price: combined with its attendance record, EQUUS did amazingly well.

Posted: 9/8/08 at 3:30pmHoly ****! Lets see the nay sayers deny that WSS gets the palace now. [tos] I give you my deepest sympathy. I say expect it tomorrow morning.
#17re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 9/7
Posted: 9/8/08 at 3:33pmIs it a telling sign that [tos], which has had practically every performance available on TDF, now isn't listed at all? Could a closing notice be imminent?

I believe this happens every single year. Nothing "happened," they are just regular numbers for the post-Labor Day weekend week.
And how neat is it that GYPSY made more money than GREASE? That's when you know which show is supported by tourists and which one isn't...or rather what kind of tourists. Same with MARY POPPINS, a 40-odd percent drop is insane.
I wonder which ones will recover and which ones won't. I'm particular interested to see how LEGALLY BLONDE and TALE OF TWO CITIES fare after the blow they took this week...unlike GREASE, MARY POPPINS, PHANTOM, and SPAMALOT, they don't have a lot saved up to survive these kind of blows (especially with all the shows eying their theatres).

Posted: 9/8/08 at 3:35pmYou can't say that these shows will close after one bad week. Look at the same week in past years. The drop off is very similar. The post-labor day week is one of the worst of the year.

The week after Labor Day is always an abyssmal week on Broadway, and it's going to continue to be extremely difficult for the next few weeks, but things will pick up again.
It's not at all surprising that Equus did so well. It's been so eagerly anticipated, the cast is a huge draw, and it started on a weekend. The real test will be if it can keep up the high numbers after a full week. I'm hoping so!

Posted: 9/8/08 at 3:51pmyou know it was a bad week when Wicked & Jersey Boys didn't sellout. OUCH!!! I need [tos] to stay open one more week as I have tickets for Sept. 18.
