Posted: 9/8/08 at 3:54pmDon't schools opening back up have a big part in dropoffs also. Especially for LB. Even Wicked wasn't at a 100% which that hasn't happened since March.

What are you talking about? RENT is up there: 97.4%, over $700'000 gross.

Posted: 9/8/08 at 4:00pmIt's going to be like this until probably around Columbus Day and then it'll revert back until mid-November. It'll be interesting to see which shows have the dinero saved up to hold out through the really lean weeks before the holidays hit.

Posted: 9/8/08 at 4:13pmWow! Tourist season is over; welcome to the real world. I know there's a drop off every Sept, but I couldn't help but be taken aback by the amount of 20, 30, and 40% dips. Geez!

God, this is terrible.
I wish I had seen [tos] before school started. Now I'll never see it...
EDIT: HOLY CRAP, Mary Poppins! OUUUUUUUUCH.

Ouch. Mega, mega ouch.
Good to see South Pacific holding on strong though.

Posted: 9/8/08 at 4:19pmI let out audible gasps when I saw these...terrible.

Some of these are quite unbelievable.
I'm crossing my fingers [tos] can hold on...
#35re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 9/7
Posted: 9/8/08 at 4:24pmHow do you expect TOS to hold on?? That is a pathetic gross. No show can survive with a gross like that.

I think BWW needs to impose a new law on the message boards where nobody can comment on the week's grosses until they look at the HISTORICAL GROSSES before they SPAZ for noooooooooo reason.
This is the same group who will act shocked when shows sell out during Christmas week, the same group who will freak out when there is a drop off after New Year's. Duhhhhhhh???!!!!!
#38re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 9/7
Posted: 9/8/08 at 4:34pmThe week was not abnormal at all. The drop from last week was 30.8% and the drop for the same period last year was 30.76%. So it's virtually the same.

Posted: 9/8/08 at 4:35pmIt wasn't just Broadway - movie theaters had a terrible week/weekend also, with the top movie for the weekend taking in less than $8M total! And the crappy weather here in NYC didn't do much to boost any last minute/half-price Saturday ticket sales.

Posted: 9/8/08 at 4:35pmgeorge95, do you tell people to shut up when they say how beautiful the leaves are in fall because it happens every year?
#41re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 9/7
Posted: 9/8/08 at 4:38pmHoly Crap, that's a hell of an average ticket price for EQUUS.

Posted: 9/8/08 at 4:54pmI sure do tell them to shutup, because commenting on leaves changing is the EXACT SAME THING as commenting on broadway grosses. : ) Just today, I heard someone say how they are going on a fall foliage trip to Vermont, and I was like "shut up, the leaves change color every year!" wowwwwwwwww. wowwww.

Holy ****...this is scary for a lot of shows.
Especially [tos]. I'm really really really sad for this show, I hope they can hold on a little longer.

so funny how everyone is freaking out. tourists disappear, kids go back to school, college kids are busy orientating and setting up dorm rooms, the workforce is back from vaca and getting back into work- who do you know who plans to go see a show the week after labor day??
add on the fact that the economy is doing poorly- i get the impression people on these boards dont quite understand how bad it is for the crowd who usually keeps the theater business running- these numbers are not all that horrendous.

I'll be shocked if [tos] lasts the month.
Mary Poppins' gross made me do a double-take.
I was very surprised at The Lion King's too, it's usually sold out too is it not?

I saw two shows this week, and both of them were deserted, so I'm not at all surprised by these numbers.
As someone else said, you know it's a bad week when Wicked doesn't sell out.

Posted: 9/8/08 at 6:06pmI really hope that whoever is our next president can fix our economy. I know its after labor day but think about it... People today can barley afford to see a movie let alone a broadway show
