According to this Reddit post it sounds like there may be some kind of bug infestation at The Eugene O’Neil. I wonder if the theatre/show knows and are doing something about it.
I thought Scott Rudin had removed himself from the production? ![]()
When was the last time a Broadway theatre publicly had a bedbug infestation? I know it happened at the AMC 42nd Street a few years ago -- and there are some who claim that once bedbugs are there, they never truly leave.
I guess it’s a good time for that steppenwolf revival of bug to transfer.
The ridiculous jump to BED Bugs here and on Reddit is hilarious and incredibly stupid. It's Summer, there are mosquitos and biting spiders. Deal with it.
Bed bugs? I will never stop laughing....
I doubt this thread will make it through the day.

Bed bugs are happy to live in basically any kind of upholstery or any kind of protective crevice with regular access to human blood, and it takes very little to get an infestation going. A carpeted theatre is a great place for bed bugs - lots of places to hide and lay eggs, thousands of people coming in and sitting still for two and a half hours every day, and a dark environment that’s difficult to deep clean (they can’t just be vacuumed up). Fleas or spiders would be a preferable option but bed bugs are also very likely.

Bedbugs do not just migrate into a dwelling from the street. They usually have to be brought into a building which is usually unlikely (though if the infestation is large enough they can travel from apartment to apartment). Even more so, the "traveling" bedbug(s) would have to be a pregnant female, a male/female duo, or if a place already has ONE bedbug surviving alone and someone brings in a bug of its opposite sex.

The tide has shifted on reddit from bed bugs to fleas. One of the dogs in the theater?

We had a movie theater here in the Mastic/Shirley area that had bed bugs. I often brought my grandkids there because they had 10 am showings on Saturdays and we brought bedbus home on our clothing and the coats we'd stack up on an empty seat during the show. The bugs are not easy to get rid of and to this day I still spray my beds, sofas and carpeting to keep them away. The Board of Health condemned the theater and it now stands empty.
It’s not that far-fetched! I think I agree that fleas are more likely because you feel them immediately but how many people enter the theatre every week, and how many of them might come from a hotel or apartment with bedbugs? I’m not sure why the people dismiss the idea out of hand.
There is history of bedbug infestations in movie theaters and businesses in the city - mostly prominently the 42nd street AMC. There was a period of time about a decade ago when numerous well-known businesses had infestations. It's not insane at all. Bedbugs are an extremely common infestation in the city and if you've ever had the misfortune of having them, you will immediately become deeply suspicious of anything on your body even remotely resembling a bite for years to come.
However, based on the limited description of that Reddit post, it does not sound like bedbugs. Regardless of whether it's fleas, bedbugs, or any other biting bug, a business needs to act quickly at even the first instance.
One should probably think twice about asking for a booster seat. First it was covid germs and now this. What is next? A mysterious white powder?
