Tveit really should have held off announcing this until Tony nominations were announced, as it may now appear that he's jumping ship on NEXT TO NORMAL so early in its run, even if it is for only three weeks (though it will probably end up extending and he'll be gone from NEXT TO NORMAL longer than expected).
I think his performance in NEXT TO NORMAL is worthy of a Tony nomination, and I would hate politics to stand in the way of that happening.

I don't think so....he's been connected to both projects for quite some time. And this isn't really 'new' news. N2N is obviously OK with it.
There will also be quite a bit of time between the West coast run and any opening that might be here....plenty of time to have a solid run with N2N....if it is around long enough. (crosses fingers)
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I didn't say NEXT TO NORMAL wouldn't be OK with it.
I'm saying that announcing that you'll be leaving your new show that hasn't even started previews yet to go premiere in another project might not make Tveit look as committed to NEXT TO NORMAL as the Nominating Committee will want him to look, up against other actors who have committed to do their shows 8 times a week long-term and be available for audiences to see on a regular schedule.

This was not something that Tveit himself announced. This came from the producers of CMIYC. Once Tveit agreed to do both shows, the producers of CMIYC could announce his participation any time they wanted to. It's obviously something that has been worked out with the producers of both shows, since the notice has already gone out for his temporary replacement.
I could definitely see him getting a nomination for Featured Actor in a Musical for his work in NEXT TO NORMAL. Sadly, he doesn't have a chance at beating Greg Jbara, who is giving the performance of his career in BILLY ELLIOT every night.
"Best supporting actor in a musical seems pretty tight already."
Um...who are you talking about? Nobody from any of the revivals (with maybe the exception of one from Hair) stands a chance at a nomination. Let's list the new musicals:
Billy Elliot - Greg Jbara will probably get one. Tale of Two Cities - Aaron Lazar MIGHT get one (but probably will go down with the sinking Tale of Two Cities ship). 13 - no, just no White Christmas - no [tos] - no featured men Shrek - potentially 2 (Chris Seiber and Daniel Breaker) Rock of Ages - doubtful 9 to 5 - maybe/probably Kudisch Next to Normal - probably Tveit
That makes 7, including Lazar and one of the guys from Hair. Tveit has a VERY good chance at the nomination, and in my opinion, the win.
"Sadly, he doesn't have a chance at beating Greg Jbara, who is giving the performance of his career in BILLY ELLIOT every night."
I very much disagree. I thought Jbara was one of the worst parts of Billy Elliot.
ETA: There is a small chance that Billy Elliot could also foster a nomination for Santino Fontana, but not that likely.

EXACTLY bjh, i just went to check IBDB when i read that comment cause i thought maybe i had forgotten some shows that opened this season. I mean, beside Jbara, Seiber and Kudisch who else is there?
Featured Actor this year should be interesting. I don't really think Tveit has a shot at winning but then again, I thought the same thing about Christian Hoff.
OK, maybe the race isn't as tight as I initially thought, but I think Seiber will take it. I also think Jbara and Kudisch will be nominated and Will Swenson and even Daniel Breaker have a better chance to be nominated than Tveit. I guess it's pretty early to be discussing this since some of these shows haven't opened yet. And I have seen Tveit in N2N at Second Stage and I like his voice, but acting-wise I didn't think he did anything too special.
WithoutATrace and WhizzerMarvinTrinaJasonMendel, I'm starting to think the two of you are the same person.
You always post strikingly similar reviews of the same shows at the same performances. You both also post similar viewpoints in the same threads in close proximity to one another.
What gives?
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
We were complete opposites on PASSING STRANGE. He loved it and saw it 10 times...for me, it was the worst show I've ever seen. Also, I loved EQUUS and he just thought it was OK. We also have the complete opposite taste in men. Believe me, we are not the same person.
"You both also post similar viewpoints in the same threads in close proximity to one another."
We just happened to agree on HAIR and IMPRESSIONISM recently. And the reason why we post in close proximity to one another is because we see practically every show together.
PS: He also loved CRY BABY and I hated it.

I wasn't enthralled with the demo of this show, but the presence of these two amazingly talented actors makes me really excited for it.
On the Featured Actor debate--Sieber was the best part of Shrek, IMO, but I can't imagine N2N without Tveit. Still, Tveit's young and has a great career ahead of him. I'd be happy to see either of them win.
