...will be a first, unlike anything done in the history of the awards show. Any ideas?

Nudity?
it will play to viewers?
...presenting the Best Musical award and calling it a night?
...turning the 3-hour long broadcast into a political campaign for gay marriage and ditching the awards altogether?
...Liza Minnelli will wash Barbra Streisand's feet?
...Neil Patrick Harris will chain himself down onto the stage and refuse to leave until Jerry Herman's tribute is put back in the show?
...President Obama will make a cameo?
...Neil Patrick Harris will rise up from the trap door, say "gotcha!" and exit while Hugh Jackman takes over hosing responsibilities?
...will be interrupted by a picture-taker following the offender getting LuPwned live on TV?
...will include a makeout session between Dolly Parton and Elton John?

It won't suck?

I would be entertained by that alone.
An interview with Neil Patrick Harris also said that he/the show is doing something they've never done before. But he said that he won't be doing magic. Hmm...

I wonder what the odds of him singing the Confrontation from Les Miz are.
.... a medley of songs from musicals that closed after a single performance.
...won't actually be unlike anything anyone has seen before and is just something they are saying to get people to actually watch the Tonys?
The announcement of the Tale of Two Cities concert cast?

But the people who would watch the TONYS to see something unlike anything before are the same dorks (myself included) who would watch the awards regardless.
Perhaps a live performance of Dr. Horrible?

I'm thinking it will be the composers of all of the nominated musicals performing a medley of songs from the nominated musicals...what with Elton and Dolly...
Jerry Herman and Stephen Sondheim will sing "Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better" and then present the Tony for Best Musical.
scaryclowns2232: That's what I was thinking as well. Why else would Poison be there?
It's some sort of medley (Liza said during the BWW video feature that she'll be performing "The World Goes 'Round" as part of it.)
Maybe they'll pull something like one of those YouTube video. A bunch of people randomly dancing in a train station. Kind of what they did with 42ND STREET, but different.
It's going to be a live feed of Neil Patrick Harris' twitter.
Actually I really hope mirandasings08 is part of the opening act.
Are we gonna see Neil's Twitter?
He was just brilliant on Letterman's
TopTen about hosting the TONYS.
I just spoke to Kate Jennings Grant at the stage door of Guys and Dolls and she said that Craig was doing "Luck Be A Lady" in the opening. Don't know what else it will entail.
So maybe all productions will get a second performance, kind of like the 2005 Tonys.
