People have asked you time and time again, that's the way it's been done on here for years so people who don't have time to read every review can come on here and see how it did.
Why after been told a zillion times do you still do it?
This show is basically getting trashed tonight. I say it lasts a year and a half.
Jeffrey
No, but you are posting just to be the first one to post the link. Don't deny that. Provide context. It makes the board better, which we know you want too. You clearly are passionate about this, so make it a beneficial experience. Read the review. Say if its negative or positive. The link doesn't help, we all have google. Actually fish out pull quotes, interesting lines so board members can discuss. You care about this. Thats great! But making it a valuable discussion would be even better, and you probably have much more great commentary to add besides a link :)
"Choc-atrocity" from David Rooney is another strong pull quote candidate.
There's a creepiness to the show that's not Dahl's subversive creepiness or even Johnny Depp's fey creepiness in the unwatchable Burton movie. In fact, when Borle's Wonka goes out into the world incognito as a stringy-haired candy shop owner, it could almost be sex-offender-registry creepiness.
From Rooney's review...this just brings to mind the Child Catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, who still sometimes gives me nightmares and I have been an adult for quite some time now. These are honestly worse than I was expecting.
Well if Jeffrey read the reviews, he'd be able to make that assessment.
It's clear that he does not do that.

Funny thing is, that I didn't realize Borle was playing two different characters until I started reading these reviews. I thought Wonka was going undercover as the candy shop owner -- was that how it was originally going down and then it changed?

Jeffrey -- Just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD. You get that, right?
You can post as much as you want. You don't even have to post words. You can post random keystrokes, if you want to. But that wont make you any friends here, and after a while, do you really enjoy people thinking you aren't even trying to get along with everyone?
I very much like that you and other people post the reviews, so I can click on a couple of them and read them. But it is true that the utility of the post is greatly improved with a few words as to whether the review is positive or negative, rave or pan, mixed or strong.
Think about it. Wouldn't you rather get "thank you's" rather than reproaches?
Thank you for considering this.
So far, Did He Like It registered Deadline as mixed and Time Out/NBC/Chicago as negative. http://www.didhelikeit.com/shows/charlie-and-the-chocolate-factory.html All eyes are on the New York Times now. And it's looking bleak.
For what its worth, I think kids and families will be more forgiving for the show, but it'll definitely run consistently with past Lunt-Fontanne shows, both in terms of reviews and grosses. Mainly The Little Mermaid, Finding Neverland, The Addams Family, and Motown.

MANY posters on here have asked you to stop just posting links multiple times if you are not going to add commentary.

Anybody have the time (and talent) to make up a mock two page Times Ad with all the "great" pull quotes from tonight?? I wish I knew how to do that, but it could be truly classic. (Of course leaves room on the banner for Brantley.....)

Love this line from The Hollywood Reporter:
".....is his harried, 1950s-throwback mother, played by the absurdly over-qualified Jackie Hoffman, who looks like she'd rather be back scrubbing Joan Crawford's floors on Feud as Mamacita."
That reminds me--the last episode of Feud is on tonight at 10!

They can pull the trick David Merrick did for Subways are for Sleeping- call people with the same names as the critics, give them free tickets, ask what they think, then (assuming they say nice things), quote them in the ads.
(I feel a need to say I'm not being serious, just commenting on the one way they could find positive quotes)
God help them with NYT. So terrible that this show failed in so many ways

I feel guilty for saying this because he did a great job in Something Rotten and Falsettos but I am eagerly awaiting to see the New York Times' review because I believe it will shred the show to pieces. For all other shows I read the reviews to see if I will or will not purchase tickets (unless it contains a few of my favorite performers or Al Pacino-who I have seen in 3 shows and swore I would never see again). For Charlie I have decided I won't see the show and am just waiting for the Times like some people watch the police clean up a car accident.

It's almost 10.... any minute now....
I kind of feel really bad for all the people involved, especially after seeing how nice they are with their fans, and how genuinely they feel about the show. It looks to at least be reasonably successful commercially thus far, and it'll do well into the summer, but it's still rough to see something a lot of people put work into fail. And the reviews at least mention the actors are overall strong given the material. Of course, that by no means obligates people to like it if it's just not a great show in their eyes.
They can't all be winners, I guess.
Some positive pull quotes:
"Treats of all delights are stacked high in the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre"
(They are talking about the literal candy for sale, but still.)
"Fabulous"
(About "The View from Here"
-Chicago Tribune
"Devishly good"
(About Michael Wartella [that made me smile] :)
"Divine"
(About Jackie Hoffman)
"Witty"
(About the Teavees)
--The Warp
Neither of those sources are huge names, but better than nothing.

For the most part....they know. The experienced actors won't be terribly surprised by these reviews.
Pan from Brantley

C+ from Entertainment Weekly - wording is decidedly more mixed than negative.
" The roles are mostly well played, David Grieg’s book is fine, the songs are serviceable, and the sets are fairly clever, but none of it is…transporting."

Brantley is up and he is negative, but not brutal.
He says it is an improvement on London, but still doesn't hit the mark.

A year and a half in my book would be considered a hit. Unless you meant to say half a year.
Elizabeth Bradley's review is no good either...
