I just found out that I am coming back to NY in May and had planned on seeing this...but now I guess I'll be seeing A CATERED AFFAIR and SOUTH PACIFIC...

One Tear is gone from San Diego. Let's Disappear is now Let's Get Some Air wich is apparently terrible. It has a gas mask dance? In San Diego it was a magic show with Ms. VW getting cut in half.
ACA and CB are apples and oranges. It is like comparing Hairspray to Grey Gardens.
I can't wait WBaF & Yankeefan's thoughts on the show...
Well.. I am not really crazy about the 22 tracks demo too... there were 2 descent songs...but MOST of it.. are PRETTY BAD-iMO.. I just did like it...I thought it was a water-down HAIRSPRAY...
Oh It Looks like this show is going to be a MESS!

WAT, nice avatar.
I'm a big fan of Dr. Spinnelli.
I loved A CATERED AFFAIR in San Diego.
I predict it will do much better than the mess that is CRYBABY.
I have been wrong before, but I really cared for the characters in AFFAIR, and just the opposite with BABY.
For those who saw In my Life and have seen Cry-Baby, which was worse?
Just a reminder that they're in PREVIEWS, early previews. A lot can change in a month.
early previews after an out of town try out. if you still have extensive changes to make after your out of town, you're in trouble.

Just saw this Cry Baby. I was amazed at how bad it was. From the lyrics to the cast. The lead girl was weak. There where a few funny moments and some good dancing. Not enought to save this sinking ship. To tired to get into it.

Jay, you must see it! For all the wrong reasons...but you must see it!
I saw Catered Affair and Cry Baby in San Diego. I thoguht A Catered Affair had a terrible book and a boring score which could not be saved by wonderful performanes from the entire cast. I thought Cry Baby was fun with a funny book, great score and lyrics, creative choreography and superb sets. Yes, the writing for the two leads needed to be sharpened but over all, I found the show in great shape. Yes, Brantley probably won't like either show- but then again, this is the same Brantley who raved about Bernadette Peters in Gypsy and then complained about Patti's Gypsy in the Encores production.

I was there tonight. I actually thought it was fun and cute. Not life changing by any means...but a fun night out? I think so It's kind of Grease meets Hairspray meets All Shook Up. Also, did anyone notice the cute guy who was selling merchandise tonight? He alone was worth it

I think Cry Baby has the potential of being a big hit. It is hip without being avant-garde.

I'll be there Wednesday.
I'm predicting I'll love it. But for all the wrong reasons.
Well shoot. I was hoping this show would be good. My sister and I are going to be in town next week and she wanted to see The Little Mermaid but I vetoed it because I didn't want to pay a ton of money to see a crappy show. So instead we planned to see Cry-Baby (even though she hated the movie) cause the out-of-town reviews seemed favorable. Now I just don't know what we should see. Should we try to get SRO for The Little Mermaid (cause I'm not willing to pay more for it) or get the $35 rear mezzanine Cry-Baby seats or see something else entirely?
Sorry if this is thread-jacking.
It was very good don't listen to everyone else. Go see my reveiw (Cry Baby: First Preveiw)
Go see "XANADU"
i got a ticket for next Saturday night. i wanted to see it in previews in case the audience ran it out of town before giving it a chance. i like reading everyone's thoughts but i am going to be mad if the audience is as rude as Norn says it is. thats a lot of why i never gave any of the Disney shows a chance.
oddly enough, someone was eating sushi in Passing Strange and i still loved it. maybe it depends on the material itself and whether it can stand rude tourists?
i plan on making my OWN assessment of "Cry Baby" sans Ben Brantley (i.e. why i go in previews)
WTF the audiance was not rude! They were very very supportive. Did you go to the same show i did?
I am really shocked at the reactions that this show is getting...thought it would get MUCH more positive feedback.
Oh well, I'm going in early April and will be sure to post a review.
We see it in April
Maybe we will be seeing something else instead.
