I would've thought that with the Beyonce lip syncing controversy, perhaps they wouldn't have wanted to have it lip-synced, but I guess I was wrong. The dead give-away at 1:52 when she closes her mouth but the audio still holds out "that". She did, however, dance the number very well, at 43 years old! Her dancing I guess makes up for her lip-syncing. Thoughts?

It's being discussed in the other Oscar-related threads (like the Les Miz one) if you'd like to peruse there

Posted: 2/26/13 at 1:17am43 makes her only half the age of Emmanuelle Riva, so it's not like she's totally decrepit or anything. Her good dancing shouldn't be that surprising.

She and my ass are both "43 years old".

And 72 year old Shirley Bassey and 70 year old Barbra Striesand and 75 year old Jane Fonda were incredible.
I will give you the point that none of the above did a "Fosse Dance" on stage. :)

Do we think she was lip-syncing to a recording she did for this performance? I can't quite tell if she's lip-syncing to the soundtrack.
If she did record that recently, I think she has more vocal ability than people have been giving her credit for in the past couple of years.

Posted: 2/26/13 at 1:17pmShe's definitely not lip-sycing to the soundtrack, the delivery is different and the register much lower than what was recorded 10 years ago.

Posted: 2/26/13 at 1:26pmThought so. I think her singing was unfairly criticized during NIGHT MUSIC. The part didn't have much singing, and she was sick towards the end of the run. Hopefully she has stopped smoking.

Posted: 2/26/13 at 1:46pmIt wasn't her voice that was the problem on the Tonys. It was acting. She played "Send in the Clowns" like a scene from The Last Exorcism. After all, pretty much anyone can sing "Send in the Clowns".

I think you're mentally ill.

Posted: 2/26/13 at 2:10pmMaybe she lip synched because she's not really 43 and finds it hard to dance and sing that number?

Posted: 2/26/13 at 2:42pmA poster in another thread says that she sang the first bit of the song live, then started lip-synching once she got off the piano and started dancing. This makes sense to me, as I didn't start thinking she was lip-synching until halfway through.

I don't know if you're actually asking, but it's because "lip-synch" was originally short for "lip-synchronize." It's not related to "sing."
Synchronize, lip-synch. Synchronized, lip-synched.

Wow! She's 43 and can still dance? You sh**ting me?!
Come on, kids. 43 today is like 23, seriously.
Chita Rivera was an old bag at 65 when she danced in KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN. Look at this clip for yourselves and see what a 65 year old dancer can do and you'll see that Zeta-Jones at 43 isn't any impressive revelation:
