I'll post the first part...the rest of the article only went on to name some of the actors to play the Emcee and Sally -- and dates of opening, etc.

When I finish sobbing my eyes out, I'll properly respond.
Just in case you want to read it:
Here's the article... it's not too long.
"Cabaret," the Roundabout Theater Company's Tony Award-winning celebration of Weimar-era decadence, will close on Nov. 2 after more than five years, its producers announced yesterday. The show will have run for 2,306 performances and 37 previews.
The show, a revival of the 1966 musical by John Kander and Fred Ebb, has been one of the most popular on Broadway for audiences as well as actors. The debauched cabaret M.C. character at the heart of the show has been played by seven actors, including Alan Cumming, John Stamos, Neil Patrick Harris and Jon Secada.
The role of Sally Bowles, the promiscuous showgirl, has been played by 15 actresses, a cross section of current and past fame on Broadway and elsewhere, including Natasha Richardson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Mary McCormack, Lea Thompson, Gina Gershon, Kate Shindle, Brooke Shields, Molly Ringwald and Deborah Gibson.
The show began previews in February 1998 at Henry Miller's Theater on West 43rd Street and opened there on March 19, 1998. Since November 1998 it has been at Studio 54 on West 54th Street.
It won four Tony Awards in 1998, for best musical revival, best actor and best actress in a musical (for Ms. Richardson and Mr. Cumming), and best featured actor in a musical, for Ron Rifkin. Among its many other awards are three Drama Desk Awards and three Outer Critics Circle Awards.

i wonder if they well bring back allen adn natsha to flim it??? i hope so =)
I'm really quite gutted about this. And as far as the show being filmed with Alan and Natasha, I don't think it's going to happen. The original plan was to film it over a period of time without an audience, like Cats did and have Rob Marshall direct it. It fell through as Rob Marshall directed some other musical film, I can't remember what, I don't think anyone saw it, and his dance card is now too full to slot in a filming of Cabaret. They might MIGHT be able to lure Alan or Natasha back to close it but I think it is going to go unfilmed, which is a real shame. Especially as we only have that hateful Donmar version of it to remember it by.

But look at it this way:
2,306 performances
...what a run...what a major, major success for all parties involved...no one thought it would go this long....
It IS sad but what a run!

If anything, I think they'd be able to get Natasha back. I know that Susan Egan's run is going to end a week before this official closing date...so who knows.
If my final Emcee has to be Mr Suckada, I will seriously hurt someone.
I don't think I've ever been more devastated about one of my "loves." Sh*t, first Buffy ends this year and now this...
NO other show will ever get to me like Cabaret...nothing else will ever come close. It's my freakin sanity, ok?? I love being able to go up and catch a 7 pm show, watching new casts, and STILL catching new little things to this day. It's not a competition for me...I don't care if there are people out there who have seen it more times than me with early casts. I watch it because I still truly enjoy it and am emotionally affected every last time I go. I'm going to miss the smells of those bad fake cigars mixed in with patrons alcohol. I'm going to miss the dark ornate theatre with the beautiful red and leopard designs. The lure of knowing you're at Studio 54 watching one of the most delightfully vulgar yet intellectual and historically accurate shows on Broadway. I'm going to miss the intimacy between actors and audiences. The ensemble...oh man, there's no other like it. What other Broadway show do you see ensemble members acting as singer/dancer/actor/orchestra/crew??
That's the other thing, all thse people (actors and house crew) are going to be out of jobs, and so many have been there since day 1. Sure, this happens every day...but this closing notice is WAY faster than anyone expected. Of course there could be an extension...in fact, I wouldn't be surprised one bit, this is why I haven't bought a closing night ticket yet. I just find it so odd that it's closing right at the beginning of the holiday season where they always profit, despite all the new shows that open.
So yeah...I've slept and I'm better, but I'm still very upset.

And it takes about two seconds to painlessly register to get access to the daily NYTimes online. But apparently even that level of investment in personal growth is beyond the realm for certain people (illybay awlorlay).
Sorry you're so upset, c-hed. That's the bittersweet beauty of live theater, you can't capture it and keep it forever.
I cant believe this! I am so upset. I will definitly see it one final time.
I haven't seen it yet, and I want to, but I heard Jon Secada is really, really bad. Should I spend my money to go see him?
No. Wait for them to replace him.
Well, when is he leaving?
---I remember when there was a rumor that Natasha Richardson and Alan Cumming were going to return to the show to have it taped for TV. That never pulled through. That really, really sucks.

but then again, better news! it mght be taped for archival purposes with JOHN SECADA! woo hoo! he's amazing! and then they can release it like Jekyll and Hyde with David Hasselhoff instead of Robert Cuccioli or Rob Evan! And the rumor is Toni Braxton wanted her run in Aida to be taped! Instead of Heather. What bliss would that be to have
Toni Braxton instead of Tony Winner Heather Headley!
John Secada instead of Tony Winner Alan Cumming!
David Hasselhoff instead of critically acclaimed Cuccioli, or Evan!
Woo hoo!
I am with Cabarethed. I loved Cabaret. I will try to see it again before it closes. Hopefully, Secada will be gone.

Then that means...

Thank you Namo. I think I've moved from tears to bitterness now. No wait...yup, still tears. Blah.
