As crazy as this is to say, I feel that a number people on this board are somehow *underestimating* exactly how much of a force Hamilton will be at the Tonys.

I haven't seen Hamilton or On Your Feet, so excuse my ignorance, but wouldn't Villafane likely be placed in Leading Actress, while Goldsberry would end up in Featured?

That's funny, I was thinking that a number of people are overestimating it. People are talking about it as if every principal cast member will get a nomination and it will sweep all four acting categories (even though there is no lead actress, despite some impressions that Phillipa Soo is somehow a lead).
For what it's worth (probably not much, but whatever):
A friend of mine went to a talk at the New School featuring John Doyle, Alice Walker, Errivo, and Hudson. They sang a few numbers from the show. According to my friend, Hudson's vocals were incredible, but her acting was unimpressive. Obviously that's just 1 person's opinion, and has no bearing on what the Tony voters will think, but my point is that while Hudson will certainly be a force onstage, we don't really know whether her acting will be able to measure up to the other nominees.
Depending on how the committee breaks down eligibility, Hamilton will have actors nominated in no fewer than 3 categories- possibly multiple actors in several categories. It just will.
Attempting to further the notion that Hamilton will not dominate the musical categories of the Tonys- and the telecast in general- is just an exercise in futility, or a smug attempt at contrarian hype-bucking.

I'm not disputing that. I fully expect nominations for Miranda, Goldsberry, Diggs, possibly Odom and Groff. But I don't think any of them are a lock to win, and it's possible none of them will.

There are no such attempts, because there is no such notion. But "dominate" does not mean "win every award."
Plenty of people are eager to assert this will be a more competitive year, with more competitive categories, than it actually will end up being. I think, with the exception of Best Actress, the acting categories just won't be exciting races.
The Tonys can be unpredictable- except when they very much are not.

Actually, though. Thank you. I'm shocked at some of what I read on here.
The kids I teach in suburban Michigan are aware of Hamilton. This is as big as I remember Rent being in the '90s (when I was a kid and had no real concept about media coverage and theater popularity). A student of mine asked me about Hamilton after seeing LMM, Renee, and Daveed on the BET awards. This is the most popular show to come along in ages and we're lucky it features actors as great as Renee.
She's definitely an early frontrunner, but I think it's too early to give her the win just yet. Off the top of my head, there are still performances from the Color Purple ladies and Jane Krakowski, who not only has a Tony already, but has a killer supporting role in a great show. I won't be surprised at all if Renee wins, but there's still a lot of the season left to go.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
Heck, even the Time Warner cable guy yesterday who had no idea about musical theater generally knew about Hamilton when it was playing in the background during his visit. 60 minutes this Sunday is just going to add it all.
And for the record, Goldsberry's vocals alone are amazing. I cannot wait to see her in person.
Half of this thread was a lively debate over the use of the word "literally." Made me chuckle!
I feel even worse for Danny Burstein. This was likely gonna be the year he got his Tony, and then Lin-Manuel "Most Enviable Man Alive" Miranda came along. I predict a "Kelli O'Hara in Bridges" situation all over again.
this is what I said back in January... AGREE 100% she will have some competition from Jennifer Hudson though which worries me a little bit (even though I love JHUD).
I'm in the camp that wants Leslie Odom to win Best Actor - Lin can win score and book. Odom deserves it... he gives a powerhouse performance.

I believe I read that Renée hasn't missed a single performance, so I assume no one has seen any understudy for Angelica (at least this is what I believe I read about a week ago).
"Contentment, it seems, simply happens. It appears accompanied by no bravos and no tears."
I went to see Hamilton for a third time over the Thanksgiving weekend with... Let's call him a male friend. When we left, he mentioned that Renee Elise Goldsberry was the highlight of the show and I somewhat agree. I think she is by far the strongest female character/performance. She has some really powerful moments that just make me ache and her voice is glorious. She is the only character that makes me cry. Ok, not cry... Weep. I would love to see her get the Tony.
For overall standout performance, I'm more of a Leslie Odom girl.
