In fact, I believe Alysha (the standy-by) has only gone on for Eliza and Peggy/Maria even when taking into account the off-Broadway run, but I could have missed one.
I've seen the show 3 times and Renee stole the show each time. It's hard to explain what makes her so amazing, she is just a force of nature on that stage.
Heh, I really need to see the show again... during this recent heatwave, I decided to go get my poster signed at the Hamilton stage door, and I've been chatting with them across a few days, and they are so down to earth and friendly, but I haven't been to the show since February, so I definitely need a refresher.
Did pretty well, though. Still need Philippa, Oke, and Lacamoire (the latter two exit other ways most of the time, apparently) and Soo was out the days I went. Even got Brian D'arcy James on there...
I haven't seen the show since August and definitely need to take a trip back also. Although I might just wait for the Chicago production since I travel to Ilinois very often. It would be nice to be able to see the original cast one more time but tickets are so expensive and I've already seen the show 3 times.
At least they won't cancel each other out. LMM on the other hand...
I don't think they will cancel each other out. IMO (and people can disagree) people will likely recognize LMM for the creation of the show and favor Leslie for the acting award.
I also agree that Renee is an amazing force in the show. She was stunning.
Yes people are insane if they think LMM has a shot at winning Best Actor. It's pretty obvious the Tony committee will reward him for his behind the scenes work instead. He has a good chance at getting nominated for Best actor though.
No offense to LMM but in a show with so much talent onstage(Jackson, Groff, Diggs ,Odom, Goldsberry ,Soo), LMM is the weakest one.
^Though Odom may some competition from Alex Brightman who just opened to rave reviews in School of Rock and/or Danny Burstein if he ends up getting some critical praise for his Tevye.
Hamilton will most likely get many nominations but it's not going to win many acting categories. As of right now, Renee and maybe Diggs are really the only ones that have a great shot at winning. Best Actor is packed this year and Odom didn't get the reviews that Brightman did.
I don't truly believe there is a weak link in such a great cast. I am also incredibly impressed by what LMM does in his portrayal so I don't want to take that away from him. However, as much as I enjoy his performance (and again, I really do!) his greatest triumph is the show itself and I think that will be reflected correctly.
I have never felt more strongly about a performance that deserves a Tony than I do Renée's. She has some of the best material in the show and absolutely NAILS IT. Her performance screams Tony.
Although I agree that Miranda isn't the best singer in the bunch, I still think he's a great performer (especially when rapping).
It has nothing to do with LMM's singing (which is more than fine). His character is not usually the type of role that wins the Tony. LMM carries the show on his back and is in a very strenuous role,BUT his character takes a backseat to let the supporting characters shine. It's just how the role is written.
The role of Hamilton is very much like Jean Valjean. And Colm Wilkinson didn't win the Tony either. Funny enough, the 2 supporting performances in Les Mis did go home with Tonys.
I wonder if both Jennifer Hudson and Danielle Brooks will be nominated for the Best Supporting Actress category. they might split their votes and give Renee a higher chance of winning
The thing is, besides being an utter toad of a human being, Riedel usually has the least knowledge of the topic in the room. He doesn't usually understand the content or approach of a show, and is always completely and unfailingly socially ignorant, which makes it really infuriating when Susan can't get a word in edgewise. A definitive mansplainer; it's always painful when he has female guests. I watch the show sporadically when I really want to see a guest, because it's the only theatre talkshow we have, but it would be so much better without this hateful clown in a dadcoat. (thanks ScaryWarhol)
There is a definitely a groundswell of folks who are shifting to the 'Anything but Hamilton' mentality based on conversations with friends who work on Broadway. I saw it, did not enjoy it (except for Goldsberry, if I am being honest), and though I have resigned myself to the fact that there will be many nominations, I hold out hope that there will be few wins come Tony time. In a season when diversity is reigning supreme on Broadway, I wonder how that will translate into Tony Awards for Hamilton. In addition to Hamilton, there is also Allegiance, The Color Purple (yes, it's a revival), On Your Feet, and Shuffle Along with some powerhouse Broadway royalty. It's a long time until nominations and awards, and it will be interesting to see if more people are 'over' the show whose opinions actually translate into Tony votes. If I were a voter, I might only be compelled to vote for Goldsberry.
^ What's with the snark? Are people not allowed to dislike things you like?
Regarding people being over Hamilton, that's just stupid. Cool if you don't like the show, but to want to see a show come up short with awards just cause you're sick of the hype, is not a valid enough reason to criticize it's potential success come TONY time.

I don't think that it's stupid at all, and I think that it has a really strong chance of happening. People (especially people with power ala the Tony voters) don't like to be told how to think, and we're all being told on a consistent basis how this show is the best thing since sliced bread. And the hype has been nonstop since even before the show opened. Tony nominations come out in May, and that's about a year into the run of the show. Miranda is constantly reminding us of how great his show is-- it's becoming the Kardashians of Broadway. You can't blink without a headline on Hamilton. I'm adult enough to take the criticism for my opinion, and I know that there are some of you who think that my opinion is wrong. That's perfectly fine. I was just offering my perspective on the show, which seems to be but one of a small group of people who aren't this show's biggest fans.
