I have a feeling JCS will win, giving Sara B her long awaited Grammy (along with a Grammy for theatre peeps Brandon Victor Dixon, Norm Lewis, Jin Ha, and Jason Tam). But I think its competition is Band’s Visit.
Might be shocking, but this is Lea Salonga’s first Grammy nomination.
I think the nominees are all excellent. 'Carousel' is my personal favorite though 'The Band's Visit', as a new work, would be a nice win. I expect JCS will prevail, but there's no nominee in the category that's undeserving of the award.
I thought they would nominate Pretty Woman due to the Bryan Adams factor. Guess not.
I’m surprised they didn’t fall for the popularity/name recognition of Mean Girls.

I was going to to say he has never been a Grammy’s darling although I was surprised by this from Wikipedia:
Adams has won one Grammy and has been nominated for another 14. Also, in 1992, Michael Kamen won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance for Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, performing some of Adams' work, and Adams received an American Paper Institute Environmental Award for environmental packaging for Waking Up the Neighbours.
His win also came in 1992 for "(Everything I Do) I Do It for You" (Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media) from the 1991 film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

Interesting to see Adam Kantor getting ruled as a principal soloist, as he only has one solo ("Answer Me) , while John Cariani is left out when he has a sizable part on "Waiting" and has a solo ("Itzik's Lullaby"  .
I think John Cariani and Andrew Polk should be included.
For MFL, I believe Jordan Donica was left out.
The others seem to be pretty inclusive. I do wish one day, the music director and/or conductor would be included. That is the norm with classical albums, to nominate the conductor and principal soloists of an album.

How f ing convenient that there are 5 nominees this year. And great comet was left out last year. No offense to the new nominees, but it's rigged. There are hundreds of nominees in overlapping categories, and the Grammy is worthless. Anyone can buy a nomination

Isn't the info and category eligibility given by the artists? (If you ever why one artist is nominated for Record for one song, but Song for another, it's because that's what they submitted for that category, likely to improve their chances.)
So, I think this could be the producer's fault/error.
And yes, I agree this is gonna be JCS. Grammy usually goes to the biggest, most acclaimed show that year, and preferably one with some contemporary Grammy crossover sound. Every box ticks for JCS.
The Grammy Awards are just over a week away. Prediction for the win?
I still think it’s between The Band’s Visit (the Tony winner) and Jesus Christ Superstar (the Emmy winner).
They’re both great albums. I’d be happy with either winning although I am personally pulling for TBV a bit more.

Congrats to The Band’s Visit! And now Katrina Lenk, Ari’el Stachel, and David Yazbek are halfway to EGOT.
It’s a fantastic album. I think the Grammys nailed this category this year. One of the best groups of albums in a long time.
And so well deserved! This show was an amazing piece of art through its gorgeous music.

^this...well Deserved. Yes!
Congrats to TBV. Definitely the best album of the year.
Can’t wait to see it again when it’s on tour. I hope the new cast and accompanying Egyptian orchestral band can be as amazing as those on Broadway. Besides Katrina Lenk, my favorite was Etai Benson. And the way the show ends, with “Answer Me” and that glorious crescendo of voices, just amazing.
