Very obvious that this was the reason why Dossett dropped of of 'Rebecca'. If he's smart, then he'll stay with this project.
Is the emsemble member, Alex Wong, the same person who competed on 'So You Think You Can Dance'? If he is the same person, then I hope everything goes well for him because he's very talented. He sadly had to withdraw from the program due to an injury and then he was invited back to be an All-Star, but then hurt himslef again.

Cast looks great. Glad they kept most of the same Newsies and Kara Lindsay. Can't wait to see it! 3 SYTYCD people? Jess, Thayne, and Alex Wong? I don't have a problem with it! And Ephraim Sykes continues to get great work, so congrats to him.

Posted: 1/19/12 at 4:52pmI believe the understudy for Jack was Max Ehrich at the papermill. He is ot listed in the upcoming cast. Max could have been the new Jack had Jermey J not come back. Anyway, whatever happened to Max. Max would have been bit more age appropriate for the job!

Posted: 1/19/12 at 5:03pmI am happy to see the 4 So You Think You Can Dance alums in the cast. Alex Wong is an exceptional dancer and I'm happy he's well enough to dance again. We saw Jess Leprotto on the sytycd tour and along with being a skilled dancer, he was a huge presence in the group numbers. I enjoyed both Evan and Thayne during their stints on the show. All a great addition to the other wonderful dancers listed here. Can't wait to see it.

I was wondering if those names I recognized really were from SYTCTD - that's incredible.
And so funny, last night I was just saying it sucked that Ephraim was leaving RENT. I also had no idea he was naturally a dancer. Good on him!
On a related note, I love that the one of the most diverse ensembles on Broadway is playing a bunch of white kids. So tired of the token minority of each gender in the ensemble - usually the same actor you saw in that other show!

Posted: 1/19/12 at 10:27pmSad to hear about the newsboys who didn't make the Broadway transfer ! BUT, the producers are smart to wrangle the SYTYCD dancers, as the TV show will be a publicity machine for them. Nigel will promote the heck out of his former dancing stars and what they're doing today ! I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't some kind of co-marketing scheme already in place !

Posted: 1/19/12 at 11:04pmHe'd be great in the role. I have no idea if he's involved or not, but he was tweeting about it recently, and given his former involvement in workshops, it seemed within the realm of possibility.

I'm certain that every dancer in the cast is highly skilled, but having seen these two dance live , in different venues, I know they are both technically strong. Alex with his experience in the Miami Ballet and Jess' remarkable center...makes me excited, too. A number of the dancers are unfamiliar to me, so I'm looking forward to new discoveries.

I think Jay Armstrong Johnson was going back in for the show when they were looking for Jeremy Jordan's replacement, but I don't know if he's in the picture now that Jordan is continuing forward with it. I have a feeling that, after his experience with CATCH ME IF YOU CAN (which he turned down covering Daniel Radcliffe in HOW TO SUCCEED... to do,) he may not want to stand by for someone again so quickly. He actually played Jack in the reading prior to the Papermill production, but I think he ultimately lacked the edge they wanted for the character.
While he was doing WILD ANIMALS YOU SHOULD KNOW for MCC, I'd heard that he was trying to transition out of covering and move into playing roles. If he was standing by in NEWSIES, he'd certainly be setting a pretty consistent precedent for himself when it comes to understudying, though he will very, very rarely leave town for work (and has turned down several semi-prominent opportunities to do so,) so his options are limited.

Posted: 1/20/12 at 12:02amNot a fan of the movie, so I had little desire to see this... until I saw Alex Wong and Evan Kasprzak in the cast. They're two of my favorite SYTYCD cast members of all time, so I'll definitely be there.
