I know Betty Gilpin is taking the lead from Jan. 21 thru March 16. I won't be going until May. Any news if Gilpin will extend or who might replace her.

I've just been assuming that Cole will return after taking a break for Betty's engagement in the show.
But it could be that theyr'e trying to line someone else up, who knows.

that was my initial thought too, but since they also announced that Conrad and James will also be leaving, now i'm not so sure

Cole is taking a break and coming back for Tony season so I think you will be seeing him. Looking forward to seeing Betty who is astounding in everything she's done.

Based on my connection to the production, they have another Abe lined up for after Phillip/Conrad’s return. Whether that will be on Broadway or an L.A transfer is to be determined.
They are also currently working to schedule Amy Sedaris and John Cameron Mitchell as Mary, but that is looking to be either a brief run pre-Tonys (after Betty) or if it converts to an open ended run.

No need to spend a fortune. Even with Escola, there were plenty of reasonably priced seats if you bought as soon as tickets went on sale. I bought when the Autumn extension was announced & got a great seat for $99.
