Ok, so I was walking near Lincoln Center yesterday and saw a poster advertizing casting for some sort of Broadway revival of "Cats." It said something along the lines of:
It's on Broadway, and it's not
It's a revival, and its not
along with info for where to send your headhot and resume.
And yes, as much as I thought this must be a joke, apparently it's not.
So, does anyone know what's going on?
I know. I'm a little scared too.

lol
that would be something: a cut down Lincoln Center revival of Cats with a scheduled 2 month run
If this is true....only 7 lives left..
So where do you send your headshot and resume?!?
I don't remember.
I don't think it's being done AT Lincoln Center, the poster was just across the street.

Pix and resumes may be submitted to the ASPCA.
Ha. You'd think I would know something about this, but I don't. At the most maybe it's a return engagement like Les Miz.
Goodness! It sounded like they were going to do something new and experimental with it. THey haven't advertized through Equity yet...
NYC_or_Bust, your comment made me laugh.
Me too

Currently in San Francisco CA (Concord CA), Willows Theater Company is doing a production of CATS the musical, but it's the same and not the same ALW version. This script is completely different and the ALW songs are being used with the permission of the rights holders. I wonder if this version will be coming to Broadway (since this version is more of a family version that has children in the cast).
Here is some info I got from their website:
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musicals have delighted, amazed and thrilled millions of theater-goers all over the world with beautiful melodies sung by unforgettable characters. The Willows is thrilled to present one of the most popular and award-winning of all of Sir Lloyd Webber’s musical productions in a new production especially created at the Willows.

The show, originally set in an oversized garbage dump at an all-night cat bacchanalia, has been reconceived as a reunion of former students of a beloved teacher at an unusual private academy – the Jellicle School of Feline Divinity. The cast of over 40 singers and dancers of all ages bring to life such cat characters as The Old Gumbie Cat, Rum Tum Tugger, Macavity the Mystery Cat, and others over the course of the evening. Direction and musical direction is by Andrew Holtz, with musical staging by John Butterfield and Daniel Uroff. Cats begins previews on November 12, 2007. Opening night is Friday, November 16, with performances continuing through December 30, 2007.
Sure to appeal to both young and old, the Willows Theatre production of Cats will feature song, dance, puppetry, shadow-play, and other theatrical techniques to bring to life Mr. Eliot’s collection of fanciful cats, set to Mr. Lloyd Webber’s menagerie of musical styles, ranging from British music hall to mock-operetta to Broadway pop.
You've got to be kidding me...That is the most ridiculous idea I've heard in a while...Now I know why they call them "weeping willows"
Pretty soon The Lion King will not take place in the Pridelands but rather a Gay Pride Parade. Simba will have no interest to "pin" Nala, Scar will banish Simba to Fire Island, and Rafiki will mourn the loss of Tammy Faye.
I am totally not kidding...maybe the audition notice is what she saw, was for this production!
"...and Rafiki will mourn the loss of Tammy Faye."
Does that make me a baboon with a blue butt?
That's one of the most depressing things I've ever read. I'm all for reinvention, but not at the hands of idiots. It saddens me that the licensing company is allowing it.
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
This makes me sad, confused... and curious...
Yeah - I really want to know what's going on!
How about a revival with midgets about shorthairs?
Hey CATSNYREVIVAL, I think the reason they are allowing it is cause I think the producers want to bring a production of this nature like this to Broadway.
We will see what happens.
"How about a revival with midgets about shorthairs?"
Oh... the visuals that went through my mind...

Hmm, I think the time has come for a John Doyle revival of Cats. Grizabella plays harp. Works.
I just read that description.
Not being a fan of Cats or especially interested, I still can't help but feel mildly offended on behalf of Cats fans... and also...
Does that read like a fanfiction to anybody else?
How would I feel if they were like "hey Lea, they're taking the songs from Nine, but they're going to change the book and have it set in a summer camp for teenagers..."
