What the hell...what is the cheesiest show you've seen anywhere?

Just from the clips I'd say Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I can't imagine Michael Ball doing what he did in London.

Music Man...jeely kly, ye gods! bleh, not that it's not well constructed, but I just can't stand the cheesiness of it

Me and my friends recently did a "modern" interpretation of Romeo and Juliet. It's...soo sappy. We have act 1, and when they first meet, we needed to think of another metaphor thing, instead of their whole..saint thing. So we just had Romeo do a bunch of the CORNIEST pick up lines, and Juliet just not catching on. I guess it's sort of funny if you think about it, but somewhere, Shakespeare is rolling in his grave. For example, the masquerade party has now become the Arbor Day Celebration. Buttt, the Capulet's house phone number is 630-CAPULET. Clever, eh?

The topic of this thread is a prime example of what I call the elitist attitude by some people on this site. This negativity only helps the unemployment rate to rise in the theatre community. It is destructive. There should be something for all tastes on Bway. What you might consider "cheese" others might find as caviar. Mamma Mia, Beauty & the Beast, All Shook Up, Chitty..... bring joy to many who dont demand the genius of Sondheim or cutting edge musicals. Let's talk up the shows and stop the put downs.

k, don't kill me guys...but sound of music.

the story in the musical is NOT what happened at all...and that is coming from me, who sat down WITH maria von trapp (the equivalent of liesl in the show) and listened to her tell me in half english/half german what actually happened. they WAYYYYYYYYYY romanticized it and totally glorified the character of maria (as in do-re-mi maria, not maria von trapp).

and as for BATB, it's disney, what more do you expect??

Sounds as though Munk who fills this site with reviews, opinions and other postings cant handle a critic. I will not again respond to his postings which now include name calling. He seems to have way too much free time.

The children and maria can be cheesy. It's not a cheesy show, but I've seen cheesy productions that are just terrible.

Lou - what is your deal? Your posts don't even make sense....

sound of music is an INCREIDBLY sugar-coated version of what actually happened.

for example, the von trapps were singing LONG before maria (the character) came into their lives. they were known throughout austria.

i'm not saying the sound of music is bad (even though i don't particularly care for it myself...it's just not for me), i'm saying it is VERY VERY cheesified.

"At the opening night party, they had clowns on stilts, jugglers, a chocolate fountain, popcorn, hot dogs. [My son] looked at me like I had been holding back. Like, 'This is what you do?' I had to tell him, 'No, no, darling. Opening nights don't usually look like this.' It's usually a dark bar with a bottle of vodka." ?Chitty Chitty Bang Bang's Jan Maxwell plus i proudly share the title of the shortest member over the age of 10 with wickedrentq!
