I just had a re-listen to the soundtrack and what a fantastic show...such an incredibly catchy and tuneful score...brilliant book...and SO overdue for a revival, or at least an Encores! production.
Right now i'm scanning the net to try and find the sheet music for DOuble Talk but I can't find it anywhere.
But whatever.
Your thoughts?

Amazing show
how ever it needs to be a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time before they revive this, the show was 100% perfictly cast they would not be able to get it 100%
Sweet Cy outdid himself with this score and David Zippel's witty lyrics. From the sexy "Lost and Found" to the flirtatious "Tennis Song" and the bouncy "Everybody's Gotta Be Somewhere" this show was a winner!
Incredible Cy! The most amazing talent and COA definitely among the best. I love "FUNNY"!

Both a vocal selections book and vocal score are published. I don't know if the vocal selections book has the song (or what part of the song, for that matter, since it is sung by so many different people), and if not I don't know if you want to pay $50+ for a full score just for that one song, but the sheet music is definitely out there.
Is anyone else going to go see the Reprise production of it in LA later this year? I'm VERY excited.
I first saw the show a few years ago in Palm Desert and loved it. I'm definitely going to try to make it out to LA to see the Reprise! production of it in January.

Wow! I'm glad to see this show being appreciated. I bought the cast recording many a year ago, when I was but a youth, without knowing anything about it (I liked the picture on the cover). I was immediately blown away, and I've been wishing since then that there could be some way that I could see it. Come on, gods of Broadway! Revive it!!! And for heaven's sakes, bring Rachel York back for it!
Love this show! Had the cast recording first and played it constantly while I was a nanny. The two kids grew up listening, singing, and loving that recording! I'd have to say "It Needs Work", "All you have to do is wait", and "You can always Count on me" are my favorites.....wait a minute.......all the songs are great, I just can't choose!
The first time I saw a production of the show was with the AMT in San Jose, CA, maybe five years ago?. I loved the black and white/color staging and lighting, and look forward to when it's finally revived on Broadway. I completely agree with Harris 007, the show was perfectly cast in 1989 and it'll be hard to top that casting!

I don't think this show would work as a concert presentation. You really need the full visual of the black/white vs color to enjoy the show.
The score is OK, but the book is fantastic. SO funny. I think the show will come back to Broadway eventually, but because it's not a "famous" show, and it's so difficult to pull off, it may not be for a while. But someday...
come on bobbybuddy, is that ALL you have to contribute to this thread? I KNOW you must like this show and want to show it some love!
"With Every Breath I Take" is one of the most haunting songs ever written.
I love listening to Kay singing that song...and when James comes in for song later, it's beautiful.
Gaah. This is one of the Cy scores I still need to check out.
I chose to purchase ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY over this. But I must check out ANGELS soon.
LIJAY!!!
You do not have this cast recording??? I am shocked! This is some of Cy's best work!

Instead of talking about remaking movie versions of Cabaret, Guys and Dolls, or Damn Yankees... THIS show is perfect to adapt as a film.
Producers, take note!
Also, "You Can Always Count on Me" is hilarious. Randy Graff was amazing!
JustMe-You should check out Lea DeLaria's version of "With..." on her solo CD PLAY IT COOL.
I love the alternate set of lyrics for Stay With Me that Zippel wrote for Nancy LaMott for her Christmas CD...really a beautiful song:
It isn't Christmas every day
So Stay with me
We've got the radio to play
Our favorite song
With a cup of Christmas cheer,
I hope that you'll agree
To share a serenade with me
No we don't have to join a choir
So Stay with me
What say we cuddle by the fire
And not let go?
Beneath the tree and mistletoe
These yuletide moments that we spend
Never have to end
Keep them in your heart
I know they're sure to stay with me
Even after we must part.
ooooh..MEF..I didn't know DeLaria covered that song. Thanks!
Randy Graff does a version on her "Doing Something Right" CD that combines "You can Always Count on Me" with "Nobody does it.." and it's pretty interesting. Not a favorite of mine, but I do love Randy's version of "Big Spendor" on that recording.
GAH I WISH I COULD FIND THE SHEET MUSIC FOR DOUBLE TALK
It's my favorite song, hee hee. Yet apparently, not so in the eyes of the public.
If anyone has it PM me.
The prelude is another great track.
Yeah..the two kids loved the prelude and the one, who is a teenage trumpet player now, loves playing along to it.
oh, and it wasn't until the girl turned about 9 that I started getting the questions I had been dreading:
"What's "the clap"?"
"what does she mean "prostitute yourself"? ( I am proud of my answer, however...It means she's selling her talent to someone who doesn't really appreciate it)
and....
"why doesn't she want the guys who can do her hair?"
You can listen to a 30-second clip of Lea's version on Amazon.com.
