If the tables were turned and a crew member tweeted something about his performance…I'm sure that would go over well. Clay Thomson's tweet

That's exactly the point of this. It is disrespectful and it is unprofessional. and hork: how many shows have you been in? the crew and the company in a long running show like Matilda without a doubt should know everyone's name.

The thing is, besides being an utter toad of a human being, Riedel usually has the least knowledge of the topic in the room. He doesn't usually understand the content or approach of a show, and is always completely and unfailingly socially ignorant, which makes it really infuriating when Susan can't get a word in edgewise. A definitive mansplainer; it's always painful when he has female guests. I watch the show sporadically when I really want to see a guest, because it's the only theatre talkshow we have, but it would be so much better without this hateful clown in a dadcoat. all that stuff's on autocue. The op may have been a cue behind...OR...it was frequency cross-talk, in which case it had literally nothing to do with the board operator.

Either way, you don't talk smack about your run crew. Typical silly chorus boy bitching. Kids with piles of money who won't be remembered in a year. Meh.

Umm, if you are in the cast of a long running show and don't know your crew (and even front of house staff) or vice versa, you'd be a pretty big douche.

If you guys have a problem with him just saying "sound Dept." Imagine if he said a name. You Guys read too into things he was trying to be funny not in a rude way. It will be totally  different if he called specifically someone. He just wanted to make a funny tweet and I thought it was pretty interesting.

I love how much ppl care about the feelings of others on this board especially the sound guy in matilda and how clay thompson could have hurt his fragile feelings.

. Also how horrible a person clay thompson is and how because he is a chorus boy in a broadway show his thoughts don't matter as much as a featured ens boy or possibly a real lead!

The mob mentality of this board is so on point with what needs to be talked about concerning theater...clay Thompsons tweet.

Find lives ppl...they r out there. Just get off the computer and walk outside.

Lol I doubt he knew the techie's name. Actors who post tweets like that generally don't care about anyone's name unless they're a fellow cast member or the person in company management who hands out paychecks.

what it comes down to is something like this could actually hurt is career. he's young, and whenever his contract with MATILDA is up, there's a chance this could hurt his chances of getting renewed or moving onto another Broadway show.

It's not about that, honey. It's not about the possibility of him hurting the sound guys feeling. It's the sense of entitlement and inferiority that the tweet comes off as.

And what drives the feeling that you must be the one to 'call out' Clay Thomson, exactly?

There's that word that people love to throw around. "Entitlement." Entitled to what? And who is inferior to whom? You're the only one suggesting any sort of superiority, by deeming this guy's tweet worth starting a message board discussion about it.

Okay, I refuse to dip more than a toe into this one because it really is not worth it, but I do want to address the "sound department" perceptions here and accusing someone of not knowing names.

1. He said "sound department", which can refer to people AND the equipment / automation. It's a collective term. He didn't say the sound board op screwed up.

2. As said before, had he posted a name, you'd be nailing him to a cross for saying a name, even jokingly.. Mind you, no one here says a THING when an actor tweets or mentions in an interview a fellow actor bitching a scene and having a mishap.

3. Maybe he didn't know the name. Doesn't mean he doesn't know the names of people in the sound department. In a long running show, there are multiple sound board operators, multiple deck audio people, and no, actors do not always cross paths with them in the building during the course of a show. THAT MEANS THEY ARE DOING THEIR JOBS. Orchestra members arrive last and often go straight to the pit and leave straight after, and there are many subs, so many in the building... Crew members have lengthy pre-sets  o do before the house opens and things to do leading up to curtain, a tors are warming up and dressing... Unless you DIRECTLY deal with someone during a performance, you may not often communicTe with someone or see them at all on  no given day, so you may not even be aware that a crew member is out or who the sub is..
