My friend and I will be in NY for Thanksgiving week and have an amazing line up of shows booked - Hamilton, Falsettos, Great Comet, Waitress, Dear Evan Hansen, Dead Poets Society and Spamilton . We have 2 slots left free - Monday Evening 21 November and Friday Matinee 25 November. We had planned to go to see the Color Purple on the Friday matinee, but have just found out that Cynthia Erivo will not be doing that performance. We already knew she wasn't going to be doing November 15-22.
Here's our dilemma...
Do we try to exchange our great Dear Evan Hansen orchestra aisle tickets on Friday 25 November evening for not so good side Mezzanine tickets on Monday 21 November, to free us up to see Cynthia in the Color Purple?
Or do we leave things as they are, go to see the Color Purple on Monday 21 November or Friday 25 November matinee and accept that we're not going to see Cynthia?
Only other option I can see is swapping Dead Poets Society on Saturday Matinee for Wednesday Matinee , Falsettos on Wednesday Matinee for Friday Matinee and see Color Purple on Saturday Matinee!
Is this even possible and is it worth it? Opinions welcome
A very first world problem, but you HAVE to see Cynthia. Besides the Music Box for DEH has great views from the mezzanine so I don't think you'll miss much!
Those were two of my favorite productions in years, and at first I thought your dilemma was going to be choosing between them! But if you are just moving your DEH seat/date, and still seeing both (and Cynthia), then it's really clear what you must do!
I'm going to agree with everyone else. If you haven't seen Cynthia, you must!
Saw DEH Off-Broadway and I really don't think you'd miss anything on the rear sides. Plus I sat in those seats at the Music Box recently for Shuffle Along and they were great.
Yes, go see Cynthia. I mean The Color Purple (no really, I mean Cynthia). Music Box does indeed have really good sightlines and there's still seats open in front mezz for the dates you're looking for.

Thanks for all your responses. In the end I decided to do the more complicated ticket swap involving moving Falsettos and Dead Poets Society matinees, so have kept my Dear Evan Hansen tickets (not that I have had confirmation from Telecharge about the theatre change yet!) and have freed up Saturday Matinee for the Color Purple. Crossing everything that Cynthia will not take any more performances off that week!
