SEVEN Drama Desk Awards!
And Jefferson Mays shares Best Actor in a Musical with Neil Patrick Harris...maybe the Tonys will do that too.

I think you really need to see it. I think the way it is staged and constructed goes along with the score. I found it hard to get into before seeing it. When I watched the show I realized how clever and entertaining it all was.

I'm sure I'll catch flack for asking as some did for mentioning they looked but IS there a full synopsis online anywhere? I'm a poor Midwestern college student who won't be making it to NYC to see this unless it has a run that surprises even it's most ardent supporters. I've been listening to the cast album on Spotify since it's release so I've pieced together most of it but I'd like to know I'm not mishearing or making false connections.

Posted: 6/10/14 at 1:35amI love love love this show and think it was definitely the best new musical this season, but I will say that it has a very specific style of humor (sort of like a cross between Peter and the Starcatcher and One Man, Two Guvnors but way more morbid) that you have to like in order to like the show. Congratulations to it and here's to hoping it tours so that I can see it again in San Francisco.

SideBySide,
How detailed of a synopsis are you hoping for ?
Mjohnson2,
I can agree, but will say that in my opinion, one doesnt need to appreciate the humor to appreciate the absolute craft at work on EVERY part of the show and production.

broadwayguy: I'd like a detailed breakdown. All I've found is a paragraph or two at most that's just variations on the basic "man kills heirs ahead of him". I'd like an in depth synopsis of the plot so I can get a clear idea of what's happening between musical numbers. Just to give an example, I was aching for an If/Then synopsis and I finally found one on Tumblr that ended up making its way to If/Then's Wikipedia page.
I assume there's probably one in the liner notes but I usually save my cast album purchases for shows that aren't on Spotify (Fun Home, Big Fish, 54 Below recordings, Far From Heaven, Here Lies Love, Violet)

golbinau,
I heard the recording and read the synopsis from the cd before I saw it and had no trouble following the story.
It's great fun to see, but the recording holds up very well on its own.

Posted: 6/11/14 at 1:34pmI had an opening show slot left in my vacation at the end of the month that I was leaning toward “Gentleman’s” anyway, but that fun Tony performance sealed it. Snatched up tickets and excited to see what all the hoopla is about!

Love those videos!
"I'd like to know I'm not mishearing or making false connections."
SidebySidebyLogan probably knows the full plot now, but a tidbit for any others who've heard the recording but not seen/read the full plot: I was in a similar situation and the one thing that surprised me when I eventually read a synopsis was (SPOILER ALERT, obviously) that Sibella and Phoebe planned the 'That Horrible Woman' scene together beforehand. I had assumed from the recording it was a farcical "They both happened to try the exact the same plot to save Monty and get rid of one another at the exact same time" joke. (It still worked!)

Tuesday Night after the TONY's is the best night to go see a show that's been nominated for anything. If they win, the audience is really enthusiastic of course and if they lose, the audience is doubly excited because they want the cast to know they are appreciated even if they lost.
Last year I was at Kinky Boots the Tuesday after the Tony. But last night, I was at Les Mis. Both wonderful experiences..hard to say one audience was more enthusiastic and both casts were moved by the audience reactions.
Love the curtain call video..thanks for sharing.
I also think it's a great day to see the entire cast without understudies. If you win, of course, you are going to show up. But if you lose, you can't look like a spoil sport and not show up, so everyone is always there as well.

I seldom see understudies in new shows. In fact in recent months, I can only think of one understudy that went on: Michelle Williams when she got sick not too long after Cumming was ill. (And I think I've seen nine shows in the time I'm considering.)
And all hell breaks loose when someone IS out....because it does happen!
