I'm personally hoping for Michael Cerveris to win, but I never thought of the possibility of a tie. I think it's more likely to be a tight race with one winner than a tie, but I feel like there may be a chance of a tie.
However, a three way tie? I really don't think so. Two way ties are extremely rare, so there isn't a chance for there to be a three way tie. Has there ever been a three way tie before?

Neom who's Tim?
"Tim will tell"
Actually JLY isn't hitting all those notes alone every show and Reidel broght this point up again on hie TONY show Last Friday night, and his quests agreed it may hurt his chances.
(go ahead kill me now, but this is a consideration)

John is hitting all of the high notes, he is doubled to recreate the sound of Frankie Valli, Frankie Valli was doubled as well.
All of the songs ie. sherry, big girls dont cry, walk like a man, dawn, bye bye baby (good bye) on all on those there are more then 4 people singing, they are all doubled.
#55re: Could Connick take the TONY?
Posted: 6/6/06 at 1:18amThey are not doubled to becasue they need it they are doubled becuase they are recreating the sound of the four seasons.

This is from John's blog
Here's some interesting history on the sound of the Four Seasons and some behind-the-scenes info on how JERSEY BOYS re-creates that sound:
The signature sound of the Four Seasons, originally called "The Four Seasons, featuring the sound of Frankie Valli" was created by having Valli record his vocal part twice and then running them back together. If you listen to the original recording of "Sherry" you will hear TWO Frankie Vallis! This technique was called "doubling," and the Four Seasons were one of its earliest pioneers, using it on some of their most famous songs.
When we recorded the JERSEY BOYS cast album, we were able to do exactly the same thing in the studio. If you listen to the JERSEY BOYS CD carefully you'll hear TWO John Lloyd Youngs on some of the signature up-tempo Seasons songs (for instance, track #5, "Sherry"). Other vocal parts are doubled, as well, just as in any choral arrangement.
To recreate that sound live, onstage, JERSEY BOYS uses live offstage or onstage singers just like in the chorus of any other musical, (except a doubler sings in unison with the lead vocal line, not in harmony). Doubling is a way to layer support under a sound, not a replacement for it, which is why you'd hear it if I made a vocal mistake: there's no place to hide. You can always hear me singing every single note every time I open my mouth; the doubling is there to help recreate that full studio Seasons sound, NEVER to replace my voice or sing for me. Doubling is not used on any of my ballads or solo numbers during the show; it's only those signature four-part harmonies (which, in reality, can have as many as ten voices onstage and off supporting each of the four vocal parts). It happens in parts of the show where I'm not one of the singers: look for other characters onstage singing in the early scenes of JERSEY BOYS where the "Variety Trio" is performing -- those are doublers.

There is a line in the show that mentions the doubling, also. It's part of the sound design/musical direction. I find nothing wrong with it.

I was listening to the Jersey Boys cast recording yesterday on the train ride home. I actually find that I listen to Jersey Boys very often. John Lloyd Young is an excellent singer and when I saw him in the show, I definitely enjoyed his performance. I am not at all bashing John Lloyd Young. He is great at what he does and I am glad he has gotten the recognition he deserves.
However, Cerveris' performance was truly outstanding...I just feel he should get the award over JLY.
Quick Question: After JLY leaves Jersey Boys, will he ever work on Broadway again? Will he be forever type cast as Frankie Valli or will he do other acting roles as well. If he decides to continue acting on Broadway, then we will see how talented this young man really is. I hope he does continue on in theater and I look forward to seeing him in more shows in the future.

John has not said what he is going to do after Jersey Boys.
I read some where and now i cant find it where he said that he will be in the show for a while, and if he leaves the show there is always the tour and there is a london show in the works.

I think Cerveris is more than deserving to win the Tony, WithoutATrace. I did like John, but Michael was excellent. I'd probably give it to him.

Glad we agree, MrMusic!
and jerseyboyslover, you read that JLY might do the Jersey Boys Tour and Jersey Boys in London??? Hopefully we won't be doing this role his entire life...I know I'd get sick of it. I have no idea how La Channing kept doing Dolly all those years!

OMG how stupid am I I looked all over his blog and could find it and you will never guess where it is, right there on his blog, this is what he said.
"To be in a position to be in the show as long as I want is very exciting. I think I’m gonna be with it for a nice long time,
either on Broadway or the national tour, and a London production is in the works. It would be nice to open a hit show
in a foreign country in the theatre capitol of the world."

Posted: 6/6/06 at 3:45pmJersey Boys, my friends, does not have an original score, no matter how good it is or no matter how true the story is. It's mediocre (as most good jukebox shows are) and if it wins anything, it will encouarge more **** like Good Vibrations, Hot Feet and Lennon to come to town and ruin the names of very good popular music artists.

But jv92, there have been many good revues and "jukebox" musicals over the past. Thiunk of Aint Misbehavin'. That won the 1978 Tony. think of Jerome Robbins' Broadway and Fosse. Both of those won Best Musical, and though the songs were written for theatre, they were not written for the shows Fosse and Jerome Robbins' Broadway. Just because JLY is in a jukebox musical, that doesn't mean he is least deserving.
(though personally, I want Cerveris to win, JLY deserves it as well)

Posted: 6/6/06 at 4:12pmThey weren't so overdone then. Now they are and often they're done poorly.

Whether or not it was overdone back then, if you look back at the last few decades, at least one jukebox or revue has won the Tony for Best Musical. I actuallly found Jersey Boys to be very good. Bring on the Tonys.

I really really really hope Cerveris can take the award.
I can't wait to see all the critics predictions, which I assume will be coming shortly.
