Lucy-

I very much see your point even though I love the new production. While LuPone and Ceveris give good interpretations of the charecters, they could never replace Hearn ( I never saw Cariou) or esp. Lansbury, who is pure Genius. And congrats on the accolades for your performance ( only about 15 years too late haha!)

If they wouldn't award Brian O Byrne for DOUBT because of his recent win in FROZEN, I doubt they will give Cerveris a second Tony so soon, especially when SWEENEY feels like it opened last season.

Connick is more of a performer than an actor. I don't see them giving an award to a performer wehn there are two more outstanding actors in that group.

I know that JLY has a lot fo the popular voter, but I'm still saying that Cerveris will pull it out because he had a much more layered performance.

Rockabye Hamlet - Thanks for your kind words! I have never done Sweeney again because it was such a wonderful production and such a great experience that I don't want to ruin the memory! Stupid, huh?! Enjoy the Tony awards!

But she had been nominated before. Only Stephanie D'Abruzzo was a Tony Awards first-timer. Chenowith, Pinkins and Murphy had Tonys and Tony noms. under their belt. Menzel had a previous nomination and a current role-model-esque role on Broadway. Of course they were going to give it to her.

I think though, Fosse, that the Tonys do like to award rookies and breakout stars. Lea Salonga, Marissa Jaret Winokur, Sutton Foster, Anika Noni Rose, Dan Fogler, and Daisy Eagan come to mind right now.
