Bummed that we won't be getting a London transplant with Luke Treadaway. But exciting that they've cast an unknown! I can't wait to see this.
I also was really hoping Treadway would come over too.
But likewise I'm always excited by the prospect of a new talent.
Taylor Trensch scores again. Booked Matilda while he was in bare, and now Curious while he's still in Matilda... sweet.
I would never see Taylor Trensch in this. He's a terrible actor.
They're doing themselves a great disservice by not bringing Luke Treadaway across the pond for this.
Super happy for Alex Sharp! He is awesomely talented, and I think he'll win over those in doubt!
Luke Treadaway absolutely blew me away. Such a shame he won't be doing it here. Truly one of the best shows I've ever seen.

How do we know they didn't try? Maybe he had other things booked?

Luke Treadaway gave one of the most amazing performances I have ever seen when I saw the show in London. I look forward to seeing what Sharp will do with the role, though. Taylor Trensch is really a surprising choice. Didn't see that coming but also won't be quick to judge.

It was actually published a while ago that he wouldn't be transferring. In fact, I think he's actually staying with the show there since it's still open.

^ Luke actually played his final performance last fall.
Luke's star is on the major rise, I don't blame him for going out while the iron's hot. That said, there's been a lot of praise for the other actors who've done it since, so I guess the star really is the play.

the national theater recorded the show and it is playing world wide.. you just have to find the venue/time. It is playing this Friday in NYC, also in July & August. So, you can see both. If they only did this for say... IF/THEN, BRIDGES, VIOLET,

Maybe of interest.

Oh weird. For some reason I thought I had read that he was still in the show when/after the ceiling collapsed.
No...they are doing a service to NY based actor by giving him the part. C'mon...
I went to a screening of the show a month or so ago. The filmed version is of the original production in the round. See it. It is incredible. The producers were there and I asked one of them about casting and they had already decided to use American actors and he told me thep principal cast was in place at that time and they feel they have a great cast. I also asked him if they considered Circle in the Square and he said they did briefly but decided to bring the new production over.
After the screening I told him that I really wished it would be in the round and he said that he is sure I will love this production just as much. I can't wait to see it. It is brilliant.
is the role of Christopher that grueling that an alternate needs to be in place??
FYI, Sharp is actually English, not American.
Damn. What an amazing gig for Sharp straight out of college. That must be crazy exciting.
BroadwayGirl, you were speaking quite highly about him. Have you seen him in a Juilliard production or something?
We were at the same final callbacks for Juiliard. It was a long weekend, and we got to see a fair amount of work from the other audition-ees...I really remember him standing out.
They definitely cast actors the director was comfortable with. I went through the audition process...and let's just put it this way, they were very transparent if you didn't fit what they were looking for. Not harsh, though. But look at who they cast, people who would agree to a 1 year production contract and not names or stars to common theatre folk but known actors from their casting "lists" who they have all worked with before. I have never worked with them before nor was I what they were looking for, alas.
ACL, I know I would be exhausted after every performance. He is constantly onstage and, it is a bit hard to explain, but I would suspect that the speech pattern thing the character has can also be a bit mentally exhausting. I remember wondering to myself how he could do it 8 times a week after seeing it.
Does anyone else get him and Harry confused? I was just remembering how great Luke was in Control (the Joy Division bio-pic) and realized that was Harry.
Then I started thinking how hilarious Harry was in Attack the Block and guess what? That was Luke.
Back on topic though, this and 20th Century are my most anticipated shows next season.
Looking forward to seeing Sharp.
