Hey guys,

Just a heads up that, per Telecharge, she will NOT be performing from June 14-19.

I'm only posting about it because it's up on TDF for 4 shows next week, but with no disclaimer.

it's just a shame that assuming she wins the Tony, audiences will have to wait until June 21 to celebrate it.

Oh wow! Thanks for this!  Going on 6/24 and wanted to actually go the week she's out.  Glad I won't be missing her!

Well I think she deserves it! The shows been running 7 months. She's missed 5 shows.

Plus, I think she's probably going to London to catch her boyfriend in the West End production of Aladdin.

It's interesting. Her initial outage was 14-16 if I'm not wrong. Well, like everyone said here - it's a very well deserved break! I think Danielle was due to be out 17/18th according to another poster btw.

I would guess she would be in it for at least 6 months,  probably until the end of Erivo's contract in October

Does anyone know who will be performing in her absence? IBDB lists 2 understudies for Celie. Do you think they will split the performances between them?

It's usually Bre Jackson that's the first one to go on.   Adrianna Hicks jumped in for the midshow switch a couple weeks ago.

Erivo was out for the matinee today. I was a bit disappointed at first since my dad hasn't seen her in the role, but Bre Jackson was fantastic!!!  Her acting might be slightly less strong but is still excellent and her singing is wonderful. She got a wonderful ovation at curtain call. My dad commented that he would never have known she was an understudy if I hadn't said anything, and he leaned over to me during curtain call and said "I don't think she'll be an understudy for long."  It was also my first time seeing Heather Headley (who was the primary reason I wanted to make a return visit) and she was phenomenal. I thought she was much better than Jennifer Hudson (who I also thought was great). 

 

So at any rate, if your only opportunity to see this is when Erivo is out, don't let that stop you!!

 

also Broadway understudies says Bre will be on next Tuesday and Thursday. So perhaps Adrianna Hicks will be on the other shows she is out?  Who knows. She was in for Squeak today and was great. Patrice Covington was in for Nellie and was also fantastic. They have a deep bench.

Anyone know why these absences happened? I am going in 2 weeks' time and would love to see the entire cast. Couldn't find any traces/announcements online about these absences before the show.

I went tonight. Bre Jackson was on for Cynthia.

I know I "don't know what I missed" since I've never seen Erivo in the show, other than her performance on the Tonys, but Bre was AMAZING and I don't feel like I missed out on anything like I thought I might.

Glad you enjoyed it! Cynthia is in a league of their own, but the show has an incredibly deep bench of talent, Bre being a perfect example.

There aren't 2 shows on Sunday's. Only Matinees.

It was previously announced that she wouldn't be back until Tuesday the 21st, but she must have cut her vacation short because Telecharge now says she won't be performing through Saturday the 18th, so I assume that means she's back for Sunday's matinee on the 19th).

One of her recent Instragram posts also says "..back on Sunday"!

Phan24 thanks for posting the info about Cynthia being back on June 19th. I see this now in her Twitter too. I am in nyc for the weekend which included TCP tickets for tonight, I bought them before I knew about Cynthia's time away. I saw TCP in May with Cynthia and Heather Headley. Cynthia gave a performance I will never forget I am going to try to get tickets for Sunday. Telecharge is down right now. Went ahead with seeing the show tonight and it was fantastic.  Bre Jackson as Celie, Carrie Compere as Sofia, Heather Headley and the entire company went to church. Bre had some big shoes to fill but she did not disappoint.
