anyone know what she's performing? Is it something from The Color Purple?
Actually she's performing a song from Hamilton.

Can't wait!
If she is performing I'm Here, will she do so in costume or just her own clothing?

I don't know...you might just have to wait, watch and find out that crucial detail!
It's strange the color purple is doing another performance on Stephen Colbert. Why not jimmy Fallon? Also I hope Stephen has as many or more musicals than David letterman. Didn't David always have the musicals com on at this time of year in preparation of the tony awards?
Colbert seems to be pretty into theatre and has a genuine appreciation for those guests. He gushed over Jessie Mueller's Carole King and asked if she would indulge him in a duet. They sang a few bars of Will You Still Love Me and it was delightful. So I hope he continues to have theatre actors on because his convos with them are always great. I think we're also seeing an uptick because the Tonys are on CBS.

Will be watching. I hope it's I'm Here. Saw The Color Purple a couple of weeks ago with no expectations. Didn't know who Cynthia Erivo was but I soon learned. She moved me deeply with her strength, dignity, love and amazing voice. Yes, she stands tall as a tree.
Colbert has been a bit shaky in the antiquated format of his new show, but I love how often he has theatre people on.
She was just ...AMAZING and UNREAL. I am obsessed with her talent!

WHAT DID SHE SING OMG?
She sang 'I'm Here' and Stephen introduced it as the first televised performance of the song by her. She was accompanied by a band behind her, she was out of costume and in her full fashionable self with her huge arms just exploding out of her skin (lol). The song was abridged at some points, but she killed it!

It was the band from the actual show.
She killed it.
And speaking of UNREAL, glad I tuned in before Erivo was on As Shiri Appleby fron the series "UnReal" was also a guest. Love that show!

Does anyone have a video link to the performance?
It will probably be up on the show's website later today.

After all the fuss I heard about her, Erivo didn't disappoint. Got a standing ovation at the Ed Sullivan Theater.
Did she sit and talk with Colbert as well?
Wow. If that doesn't sell tickets, nothing will!
Absolutely incredible. Experiencing her performance and delivery of "I'm Here" was one of the highlights of the season for me.
What a positive, life-affirming way to start my day.
I've been going to professional theater since I was in diapers and I can say without hyperbole that Erivo's is the greatest musical theater performance I've ever seen. This clip just drives that point further home. What she can do with just her voice -- no sets, no costumes, and no context -- is extraordinary. I hope she's come to like New York and decides to be a frequent visitor to our stages.
