Giurgis' work is absolutely at least partially to blame. Unless he was locked out of the rehearsals because he wanted to cut characters and do massive rewrites.

It seems to be doing decent box office, might it be possible that it isn’t a perfect disaster?

Any chance this production has gotten better? Any tweaks since opening night, or is it too late? Wanted so much for this to be a hit. Checks so many of my boxes: love the movie…like the stars…fascinated by 1970s NYC.
Still tempted to see it with affordable tickets available.

I'd go see it  without hesitation especially for cheap. I love the movie too and the mood/pace difference between the play and the movie is stark. However, I found it to be very entertaining and not boring for a second. The cast didn't disappoint for the most part. I was in incredibly good mood when I saw this play back in March, maybe that was another reason I actually really enjoyed it.

I am seeing the matinee on June 12th. Do Ebon and Jon do selfies and autographs after the matinee?

They signed after a Wednesday matinee I went to but I didn’t notice anyone taking pictures.

this was better than i expected it to be, but its clear the writing was unfinished or aborted or that something went wrong here. the tone is all over the place, and the ending is real rough. though im not sure how you end this story, which raises the question of why this needed to be adapted to the stage in the first place?

Bernthal and Hecht are both truly excellent, and rise above the uneven tone. Im baffled why Ebon Moss Bachrach agreed to do this role, and I suspect the most rewriting/agita took place with respect to his character. Hes given nothing to do and his character is so underwritten, such a misfire.

what really works is the set and the scene changes- the scenic design was rightfully tony nominated.

crowded but not sold out orchestra on a saturday night. TDF put us in Row L dead center.

I actually wasn’t as big a fan of the set as most people. The scene changes were loud and clunky.

Has anyone managed to succcessfully past date tickets to this?  I had to miss a performance where I had TDF tickets two weeks ago and I filled out the past date form on ATG pretty immediately but it's been crickets since then.  I know past dating is a courtesy and not guaranteed but considering the amount of times I've seen this show on TDF I figured it would be doable.

Don’t you have to call them the day of the performance you want to see?  They then check availability and give you a yes or a no.  This is how it worked for me when I past dated mean girls but that was when it was jujamcyn

I had tickets to this show a month and a half ago. My friend went, but my buses never showed up, and I couldn’t get to the theatre. I was devastated. My friend gave me the past-date info, and I filled it out explaining the situation. Never heard back. The show clearly hasn’t sold well, so it’s not like they didn’t have a seat to give me, and you’d think they would’ve wanted an extra body in their audience. They close today, and I just have to say good riddance to them, if that’s how they treat their ticket buyers.

Hecht was quite good.  Bernthal and Moss Bachrach were huge disappointments to me, albeit for different reasons.  We've heard the term "disappeared into the role" used before, but Moss-Bachrach took it a step further and just plain disappeared, depriving the play of one of its most potentially impactful characters.  Bernthal, on the other hand, shouted his way through a manic performance devoid of nuance.  These two have done beautiful work together on The Bear and individually, Bernthal in particular, in many other projects.

I don't blame them.  More likely they are casualties of a poorly written adaptation that didn't have the right director.  The production was the misfire.

Did this ever post a new closing notice/use its original one? Or was this like Fear of 13 where it just moved up its closing quietly?

This is John Bernthal in a nutshell, in each and every one of his roles. Doesn't mean he isn't entertaining, but yeah...

Neither. It actually extended at some point. It was originally announced for a strictly limited 16-week run, ending June 28. On Opening Night at the end of March Playbill was still quoting the June 28 closing date. Then it added two weeks.

I had tickets in May I didn't end up making it too and also tried to past date and never heard back. I even called ATG to check that my request went through properly and they said it did and that I hadn't heard back meant there weren't seats available for past dating which was strange to me since it was on TDF. I later got a comp to go and the fact that they were giving out that many comps was also weird that they wouldn't honor past date requests, so not sure if that's a production thing or more on the ATG level (I've never had this issue with the Schubert theaters)
