Didn't Leslie post a public Facebook piece about how excited he was about this? I hope he's okay, too.

Unrelatedly, did they get rid of the slash in between the two names in the title? One word? Really?

I hope everything is all right with Leslie Jordan as well. I was looking forward to his take on Capote, but obviously whatever is going on is far more important - just hope it isn't anything too serious.. Dan Butler is an interesting replacement - not what I pictured but the more I think on it the better it sounds to me. I don't envy him having to play catch up with only three days left to go. The Boston Globe said that he will actually have his script in hand with him at the first preview this Sunday.

Do people need to seek your approval prior to any name changes? Really?

I wouldn't have thought of Dan Butler as a replacement but a very good choice. Looking forward to heading up to Boston to see this. Also hope nothing too serious with Leslie Jordan

Do you need to jump down my throat for voicing a personal opinion about a minor thing? Really?

Jump down your throat? Really? You made a comment I responded. Or is it you have an opinion like in voting for Trump and you can express your opinions on how you think he is the best man to be President but then no one can have an opposing opinion? You love to say what you like to on here all the time I hope you realize others are allowed to do the same thing.

Hopefully Leslie had to withdraw due to a possible return to WILL & GRACE which is currently in production. Seems everyone is returning to the reboot of the series and reprising their original roles, from Harry Connick Jr, Minnie Driver to Bobby Canavale. Here's hoping he's back too.

Coming from the person who voted for Trump.

Anyone know how the first previews went?
"

First preview is tonight.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

Sorry Broadway Concierge -- when you make ridiculous comments on a public discussion board, people are going to let you know. You dont want folks to comment, stop posting.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Our email today regarding the show (we are seeing it tomorrow) noted:

"Last Thursday, September 7, Dan Butler (All the Way) joined the cast of WARHOLCAPOTE in the role of Truman Capote. He is appearing with Stephen Spinella (Tony Award-winner for Angels in America) who portrays artist Andy Warhol. For the next few performances, Dan Butler may be using a script throughout the show and there will be a prompter in the audience if an actor calls for his line. The actor who had been previously announced, Leslie Jordan, has withdrawn from the production due to unforeseen personal circumstances."

Obviously not going to be irked if he isn't off-book yet, since he had next to no preparation time before previews started. Has anyone seen this yet?

We were there as well! Yes - looks like he has about the first 20 minutes down and is still in various stages of memorization with the rest. I have to admit it was a bit distracting with him having the script (especially when he needed to juggle that and other items he had with him), but certainly don't fault the guy for it - and that's why these are previews! There was some other noise during the performance (I think it was feedback from the mics?) which they really need to fix. Love the set design and found the show enjoyable despite the issues.

What did tick me off were the three phones that went off during the play - and that when they started ringing they went on FOREVER. Either the people didn't know their phone was the offending one, or they couldn't reach it easily/hoped whoever was calling would just give up. So, so rude.

My husband, who's been VERY hard to impress in a theater for a while, was knocked-OUT by today's matinee performance of WarholCapote at ART in Cambridge. His words were something to the effect of, "I haven't seen anything that good in a long, LONG time!" He was especially impressed by the performances of both Stephen Spinella and Dan Butler (who's mostly off-book, now). He said he wanted to buy a ticket to see it again tonight. He also raved about the crafting of the play from the hours of taped conversations over many years.

This kind of response to a play rarely EVER happens with him.

Should it be assumable that there's a goal of bringing this in to NY? That is what I've assumed, with Michael Meyer as the director.
