Posted: 8/4/06 at 2:02pmI know I'll get ripped up, but I don't really care for Raul Esparza. I thought I'd like him because of all the hype on these boards, but hearing some recordings of him...his voice isn't really that impressive IMHO. Maybe I heard a bad recording? It was a live recording of him singing "I Don't Believe in Heroes Anymore".

Haha.
He fools you when you see him from a distance.
Stand just below him and look up. You will see that he is a man playing a boy, and that's a shocker. Good actor!

Posted: 8/4/06 at 2:06pmI think you have to see/hear Esparza in person to get the "full effect" of his charisma and talent. Not only is he great in musicals, he's also a moving actor when no singing is involved: he made me cry buckets in the Public's production of THE NORMAL HEART, an experience which left me an emotional wreck for hours afterwards.

What about Ralph Fiennes? He's very handsome...at least I think so...

He's not only handsome, he's one hell of an actor.
And yes, Ralph Fiennes (Rafe Fines) is dashing, as several of those classically, excellently trained British actors are. The RADA, RSC types. They are taught to do everything, including swordfight.
I haven't seen this production of Faith Healer yet, but I don't believe it requires him to do anything dashing, which is a pity. I'd toss at least a nice practice of foil techniques in there for the hell of it, even if it doesn't go with the play.
I mean, really Friel, let them dash a bit.

Ooh, Ralph. The very definition of dashing, in my opinion.
"I Don't Believe In Heroes..." probably isn't the best song to showcase Raul's vocal talent. Still, although I'm not a little in love with his voice, acting is his strongest point.

JLY is too short to Dash.
Dashers should have height.

Dashing is like the use of chili pepper.
You only need a little.

Frankly, the men do not need to be "beautiful," "gorgeous" or even "handsome" to be dashing.
It is more in the way they move and in their elan than any facial looks, though granted, some athletic ability is a must.
Men can be very good-looking and a bloody bore easily enough. Ack. The kind that open their mouths and you are suddenly very disappointed, as apparently it all went to looks instead of brains or personality.
