I would too Yankee. It's not going to happen, but I would love Short to beat out the rest of them. I really didn't find either Raul or DHP that good. In terms of musicianship, I was bored with both performances.
Well, 110 IN THE SHADE and LOVEMUSIK begin previews this week. So I'm sure we'll be able to have a more clear-headed outlook after the only two musicals left this season begin performances.
Personally, I'm excited!

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."

Esparza still has it in the bag, but there can always be something called an upset. That upset won't be Hyde Pierece though...it'll be Michael Cerveris, who always does an outstanding job and is sure to do one in LoveMusik. He was robbed of a Tony last year by a guy who imitated a has been (Yeah, I know I'm not showing the Frankie Valli love). He could get a Brian Stokes Mitchell in Kiss Me, Kate Tony. Prediction as of today-
Raul Ezparaza- winner David Hyde Pierce Michael Cerveris- upset (I don't think we'll be all that upset though.) Martin Short Gavin Lee
While I really want Esparza to win, it's nice that there's actually going to be so much really great competition. I like the fact that there are (or will be soon) many talented people on the stages right now. It's much like the Leading Actress in a Musical category. There are so many excellent choices and it's heartening to see a season filled with incredible performances.
Leading Actress isn't nearly as competitive-getting nominated will be with the excess of leading ladies out there (winning, not so much). (Even leading actor really seems tied up, although I think DHP could upset Esparza.) Didn't love Company, Esparza was very strong, however. (I didn't like Curtains.)

I get very nervous when people say that Ebersole is a lock. I feel like it's going to jinx it. I don't think that anyone's ever a definite. I can't believe John Lloyd Young won last year over Cerveris, even though many thought that Cerveris would win. You never know what's going to happen.
Actually, I thought John Lloyd Young was going to win last year, seeing how he won everything else. Plus-go to the NYTimes and see what Mr. Brantley says orally on the slide show about Grey Gardens. (He NEVER talks this way about anyone, not even his beloved Kristin Chenoweth.)I know Brantley isn't the voters, but the general consensus is there.

There are still a few shows to open. But having seen both shows I would still give it to Esparza--I think his performance in Company is amazing. He gives clarity to and makes you care about a character that is usually a cypher or blank spot in the middle of the show.
But, I wouldn't be upset if DHP won--he's the best thing in the show (which I don't think is very good. I think both Spring Awakening and Grey Gardens are much better). In many ways DHP gives Curtains the only humanity it has.

Danielm, I didin't think Curtains was very good either, but I think the only humanity in the show comes from Karen Ziemba and Jason Danieley. DHP really wasn't that strong in my opinion. He will definitely be nominated, but he will not win. Honestly, I really think Cerveris has a good shot this year. I didn't want him to win last year cause I thought JYL deserved it more, but if he gives the same quality performance in LoveMusik as in Sweeney, he'll still be leagues above Esparza.
I saw both, and while I didn't like Company, I still thought Raul did a great job. But, I also thought that DHP was great. Although Raul will most likely win, I will be a little sad because I thought DHP was quite good as well.
I think Cerveris will make interesting competition for Hyde Pierce and Esparza but the fact that he is a previous Tony-winner will hurt his chances considering Hyde Pierce and Esparza both are solid actors that continue giving great performances and I'm sure people think it's time to reward them. I still hope Hyde Pierce wins though.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
bjh2114, while I have liked Jason Daniely and Karen Ziemba in other things I don't think they make much of an impression in this show. It's one of the things that really bothered me they, along with Noah Racey and most of the rest of the cast are just wasted in the show.

If there is an upset, it will be Cerveris over Esparza... after they robbed him last year... still, I hope Raul will win because from what I've seen, his preformance is incredible...
