Ah yes, the King (Queen)? of secretly attending performances by multiple BWW posters - who are told of it eventually, btw.
Because that's not at all weird nor creepy.
That is what this board is about, Rath, seeing theatre and passing along your opinions and sharing the experience with others. I don't see what your problem is with people talking about a show that was advertised on this board that starred a very talented Broadway performer that you JUST HAPPENED TO BE IN! Perhaps you should reconsider your goals if you can't stand the thought of people actually SEEING you in a show and TALKING about it. Still not clear where the "STALKER" and "CREEPY" comes in.

"Correct me if I am wrong, (there is a first time for everything, you know) but with this "limited engagement" and every theatre buff within lobbing distance salivating at the thought of seeing Lansbury just taking a crap, is there really ANY CHANCE of them cutting their losses and closing this thing in previews? I highly doubt it. She could walk on, script in hand if necessary, and people wouldn't care. "
Certainly the producers wouldn't if they were making money, but I don't think Lansbury, who has great pride and has had extraordinary highs and tragic lows in the theatre would have much of an issue with pulling out of a production if she thought it wasn't good or that she ultimately wasn't up to it.

Are we rehashing this again? Do I really have to point out that it's not the fact that someone came to the show - it's the fact that it was done secretly, and then referred to over and over in threads, without mention of which one of you was actually there. THAT is creepy.
And you know it is - it was planned that way.
This thread is about DEUCE.

Posted: 4/12/07 at 10:10amahh, but the mystery attendee that's... that's where she's got them. they laugh at her and made jokes but she proved beyond the shadow of a doubt and with... geometric logic... that a mystery attendee to the show does exist, and she'd have produced that mystery attendee and exploited their whole nefarious plan to injure her reputation if they hadn't of pulled bww out of action. she, she, she knows now they were only trying to protect some fellow posters...

I'll pay to hear Lansbury use profanities! It'll be like Julie Andrews in Duet for One..."I've got f**king Multiple Sclerosis!"
And, Namo and Sueleen clearly have mad crushes on Rath...they might as well claim a cootie alert...getting very tired, and noone else is interested, especially in EVERY thread.

Posted: 4/12/07 at 10:13amBea Arthur did indicate in her show a few years ago that Lansbury has a mouth like a sailor. Perhaps, if nothing else, this is finally our chance to see it!

I'm always amused at the giggling behind the Japanese fan as we marvel and gasp at women d'un age certain employing sailor-speak. Ms. Lansbury's hardly known for being the queen mother offstage, but it seems to be a turn on to hear her use the C word in a broadway house. Different strokes for different yokels.
It's like Kathleen Turner revealing hers in the god-awful GRADUATE, rather than merely nameing it in public.
What's more interesting to me is this play. Primary Stages was proudly producing it with Ms. Seldes, and another actress as yet determined, then lost it, suddenly, when they secured Lansbury for Broadway. Clearly the gents at Primary thought it stage worthy. Or maybe they, too, are McNally f--kers.

Auggie, I had heard that it was Marian & Zoe Caldwell originally, then Zoe was dumped when Angela expressed an interest in it.
The play itself is unworthy of any of these three ladies.
It's just relentlessly uninteresting and uninvolving.

Posted: 4/12/07 at 11:07amLcZ is absolutely correct. Caldwell has been demure about it in interviews, but many have said that she and McNally are no longer speaking because of it.

Posted: 4/12/07 at 11:34amYeah, yeah, I'm one of the yokels, I have tickets too! Wouldn't miss it, whether she curses or bakes Marian into a meat pie.

Vanessa Redgrave, meanwhile, is going to haul ass to Lollapalooza.
Even if this sucks, at least I got to see the dignified Lansbury in that Dorothy Parker benefit last year.

That's their own fault for being unknowledgable consumers. If they're paying $110, they should know what they are paying for and, if they don't, it is no one's fault but their own.
Priest, I don't disagree with what you are saying, but truthfully, that's never gonna happen. My original point, which I probably didn't make clear, is that producers know this and take advantage by charging full price for something that isn't a finished product because they can. People who are only casual theater-goers, or in this case who are only there to see "Jessica Fletcher," don't know and don't care. Nor should they. You are right - they pay their money, they take their chances. But to expect them to know what they are getting is setting up an expectation about the general public that is never going to be met.

Posted: 4/12/07 at 2:37pmHey Foster--As much as I love her, I think it's safe to count Tonya Pinkins out. I saw Radio Golf in Princeton a couple of weeks ago, and even if it had been really amazing--sure, it was pretty good, but not nearly as impressive as Gem of the Ocean--Tonya's part as the wife is a minor role, not big enough for a lead nomination at all.

Posted: 4/12/07 at 3:14pmApril, that's interesting to hear. I wonder if Pinkins will be ruled eligible for the Featured category. She is above the title, if I remember correctly. This is a busy year for plays though, so if you say her performance wasn't worthy of award recognition, I'd say she has no shot in either category.

Can someone who was at the show tell me if they were selling windowcards yet? (I saw someone in that video with one)
Triton said they haven't gotten any and they weren't sure when they would.
Thanks.
