It's original production was this show called "Step in Time" which was just a revue. It was terrible. They decided to rewrite the show, and added a weird fairy godmother. (Eden Espinosa was in it)
Then, because it still was a terrible show, they hired BLAST! to do a mini 40-minute version of the show. It closed to make way for Aladdin.
"Hey, you! You're the worst thing to happen to musical theatre since Andrew Lloyd Webber!"
-Family Guy
I never saw Step In Time. There must have been a huge gap from when I saw them building the park to actually going after it opened. Do you know how long that show was there? I actually liked the Blast show. I think it's better when it's only 40min.

lol They use to come out by the parade route before the Hollywood Backlot and have five drummers or something a little bit before the show and play a few things. And then there was that store where they have all the little girly stuff now on the left side of the backlot.

Go on youtube and search Snow white Singin Dancin Heigh Ho. Its an 80's theme park show to commerate the 50th anniversary of the Snow White film. It so eighties and dated but much more fun than what they have at the park at times. Aladdin is not a Broadway caliber production. The talent is fine, but the set is very theme park. It doesn't have the craftsmenship or artistry like seing Beauty on broadway. The show does give a song to Jasmine that is really nice. The show is very abridged. If Disney ever brings Aladdin to Broadway it won't be this version.
IssaME, I had a friend who worked the show and said they were always hiring new actors, like almost every week. It was insane, that show has the most turn over rate than any show I know of.
"In the U.S.A.
You can have your say,
You can set you goals
And seize the day,
You've been given the freedom
To work your way
To the head of the line-
To the head of the line!"
---Stephen Sondheim
According to the casting notice, upcoming auditions are for leading roles for a contract period ending in September 2008--- so it looks like the show will probably keep running for at least another year.
Yes, I know about the turnover, have had many friends in this show.
They re-worked Steps in Time either 2 or 3 times and it was awful every single show. Even the version from the DCA previews in the January didn't make it to openind day.
Aladdin is a lot of fun and giving the Genie room to ad-lib at least makes it a very repeatable experience which is perfect for that park.
WOW! Thanks for the clip of the Snow White show. That brings back memories! Snow White was played by a good friend of mine, Ann Winkowski and her wig had so much hair spray in it, that it was like Darth Vaders helmet.
