As much as I love Douglas Sills, though, I'm not quite sure I see him as Hades. Hades should have kind of a thin, raspy New York accent.
But, don't you think that Doug Sills could do whatever kind of accent he wanted to? Remember his portrayal of the "other" roles in Little Shop -- those were the best part of his performance (for me).
Of course, I still GREATLY prefer Hunchback of Notre Dame, and I really want an American stage production. I actually think that one would be a better stage musical than animated film.
And it was biggetty big big in Germany; seriously, it ran for years.

That's true... He is really good with accents. I personally can't imagine him in the role, but I'm sure that if there was a stage musical and he was cast, he'd be fantastic.

Sorry about the thread bump, but wasn't there a Broadway version of Hercules when it first was made into a Disney movie? I vaguely remember it, and I've found a few references to it on the web:
"Andrea Kron - Performance credits include Radio City Music Hall, Helen Hayes Theatre, Hercules on Broadway at the New Amsterdam Theatre" (http://www.thedanceloftny.org/Faculty_Bios.html)
"He played the lead part in Disney?s Hercules on Broadway (referring to Matt Thibedeau)" (http://moms.inforum.com/articles/?page=view_article&id=246727&property_id=1)
Does anyone else know anything about this?

i searched ibdb.com to see if they had anything and nothing came up about Hercules or either actor.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

it could be okay... maybe Susan Egan could reprise her role as Meg

The Hercules musical on the Disney Cruise Line was fantastic! And I agree with the "Zero to Hero" ending Act 1 business.
Kelli O'Hara as Meg? Anyone?

Seems a bit too sweet and wholesome for the role. Then again, I imagine Susan Egan did coming off of Beauty and the Beast.

I swear I read somewhere that Hunchback of Notre Dame on Broadway was Disney's next venture. (Which would be amazing -- one of Alan Menken's best scores. Has anyone seen clips of Der Glockner von Notre Dame? Even in German, wow!!)
I went on three Disney cruises back when Hercules the Muse-ical was playing, and I enjoyed it, but I think it would only really work as a cruise ship musical. Just like how I think Toy Story the Musical will only ever work on the Disney ships.

What about Laura Benanti or Leslie Kritzer as Meg?
Oh, Toy Story the Musical. I've only seen a recording on "that site" and it seems dreadful. I will say the technical aspects were FANTASTIC and genius though. The songs left a lot to be desired.

Finding Nemo the Musical kicks Toy Story the Musical's proverbial butt. But hey -- it's got songs by Robert Lopez and puppets by Michael Curry. It also had Allison Case in the original cast.
Meanwhile, TSM has songs by... Um... Oh, and it stars.... Uhh.... Yeah. Not much going for it. (Still has that Michael Curry puppetry, though!)
Still don't see FN coming to Bway either. Lovelovelove it as a theme park musical, though. :)

Cheyenne Jackson as Hercules
and anyone except Sutton Foster for Meg.
I actually think this could be a lot of fun as a stage musical and has a very strong score.

I've always thought that if ANY Disney movie could translate to stage, it would be this one. The music was MADE for Broadway.

I agree- though there are clear parallels between the Muses and the 3 urchins in Little Shop.
If you've been fortunate enough to see War Horse in London, right there is a way to bring all the magnificent creatures to life!

Leslie Kritzer I can TOTALLY get behind. Laura Benanti, not so much. Meg has attitude and edge, not something Benanti really exudes.

Hercules the Muse-Ical did some interesting things. It was all a play within a play, presented in a mock-Greek style. At the beginning of the play, the Director and the Stage Manager are in a huff because one of the Muses has just been sick with a case of food poisoning. A chorus boy cast as a Moose in a different show is pulled in to play a Muse in drag, and the show goes on- very Xanadu. Later, the Director is forced to take on the role of Philoctetes, much to his chagrin.
The characters "break character" repeatedly and revert to their real personae as actors, crew, director or stage manager. In particuilar, Hades is upset that he's doing such low-brow entertainment, especially with the Pain and Panic understudies being two young Disney fangirls.
