Do you think 'The Addams Family' has any chance of snagging Tonys?

I'd rather see Baldwin get nominated to be honest. I wasn't a fan of FINIANS but I thought she was lovely.

I really didn't like Glover in MEMPHIS but at least she looked interested. When I saw ADDAMS, Neuwirth was sleepwalking. And it's very true that it may be her characterization but she needs to amp it up. Because she was boring as hell when I saw her. I obviously think she's a million times more talented than Glover but if I'm being honest, I wouldn't mind seeing Glover get a nom over Neuwirth.

This season is the definition of slim-pickin's.

I haven't seen Chenoweth yet but if she fulfills my expectations, I'd like to see the nominees be Chenoweth, Noll, Baldwin, Scott, and Zeta-Jones. But I think the nominees will be Chenoweth, Scott, Zeta-Jones, Glover, and Neuwirth. And Cook could very easily take Glover or Neuwirth's slots. Probably Neuwirth's if anyone's.

I think Cook is absolutely going to be nominated for Sondheim on Sondheim. If Glover is going to be nominated, it will be over Bebe Neuwirth, not Barbara Cook (assuming the other nominees are Jones, Scott, and Chenoweth). Glover's acting was so bad, that I actually hope Neuwirth takes the spot, despite the fact I wasn't crazy about her.

There is one thing that pisses me off when it comes to the Best Musical & Best Revival categories when they have a default show in the running. Take Grease for example; if you can manage to garner ONE other nomination then how in the hell could it be considered a contender for the top prize?

I do hope Baldwin is remembered in the Best Actress race.
Is 'Finian's' still the best reviewed musical so far this season?

i retract my previous comment about the lack of best actor nominees, I blanked on a lot of contenders.
"Grease," the fourth revival of the season, is the worst show in the history of theater and represents an unparalleled assault on Western civilization and its values. - Michael Reidel

Thanks TheatreFan4 - Fela didn't immediately spring to mind (prob bc I didn't really care for it.)

I expect La Cage will fair pretty well with critics too.

I'm sure that "The Addams Family will win" for Best Scenic Design, and will be nominated for Best Costume Design and Best Lighting Design. It will also be nominated for Best Score by default.

All of which are deserved (besides Score) - from footage and shots that I've seen, and from the the reviews, I don't think anyone can say that the show doesn't look terrific.

And to be honest, design-wise I don't think there's a tremendous amount of competition, outside of "Enron" and maybe "American Idiot".

ENRON wouldn't pose a threat to ADDAMS in any categories. It's not a musical.

And I didn't like the set. I thought it was way too bulky and big for no reason. I liked the costumes though.

Does it smile 3 times? Do you think 'The Addams Family' has any chance of snagging Tonys?

When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain. -Kad

Drunk, it's been a while since I last saw 'Everyday Rapture' and I didn't keep the program. How much original music is in it?

'All About Me' has about 8-9 original songs, mostly by Michael Feinstein & Barry Humphries, with a couple written by Matthew Sklar & Chad Beguelin.

Also, 'Enron' has some songs; are they by Lucy Prebble?

I love the score to 'Memphis' so if it wins the Tony for Best Score, I'd be thrilled. Also, it would be a way to recognize NEW work (not music from a 6-year-old Grammy-winning album that's aleady sold 15 million copies).

To me, what's really tragic is that out of 10 new musicals this season, only 2 of them have original scores for new book shows.

It's just always funny to see this happen. When shows like Shrek/Next to Normal even Billy would win categories this year that they didn't last because competition was so tough last year (and still is in some catergories) but for best musical/score, the choice really isn't that great.

If Enron/Red are eligible for Best Score, one of them will win over Memphis/Addams Family.

Also, I think that Addams Family is almost guaranteed the Scenic Design Tony, unless American Idiot steals that one. That's the only one Addams Family could get though (maybe costumes, but even those were underwhelming I thought).

I hope that American Idiot's score is eligible considering that it was, in fact, written for the stage and it was beautifully orchestrated by Tom Kitt.

Memphis and The Addams Family both have completely forgettable scores (I can't remember a single song from either). And I haven't seen Fela, so I can't really comment on that.

American Idiot wasn't originally written for the stage. It was a rock album that came out in 2004. True, the album is very theatrical but it wasn't intended for theater when it first came out.

If AI is eligible for score, then what about "Fela!"
And for that matter Come Fly Away?

I love the show (AI), but how could it possibly be deemed eligible?

Good point about All About Me. Totally forgot that had original songs.

So:
Memphis
Addams
All About Me
Enron (?)

Memphis could very well take the prize.
....but the world goes 'round

It really is an incredibly weak year for new musicals...wow. I haven't seen The Addams Family yet but if Memphis wins best score I will really not be happy, to say the least. Some of the music is somewhat catchy but the lyrics are atrocious.

Orchestrations are a completely separate category from Score. It will be eligible for Orchestrations, and Tom Kitt will almost certainly win his third Tony for orchestrating it.
