Re: Dolly Parton has passed away at age 80

I’m a gay man who doesn’t know a loooot of Dolly’s songs or know that much about her as so many others do. I saw her wonderful work in Steel Magnolias, preferred her haunting “I Will Always Love You” to Whitney’s, and fell in love with her “Jolene”. I saw bits of her 9 to 5 movie and musical. I saw her sing a few times on camera (thanks for pointing me to “Baby I’m Burnin’”, it’s great!), and I know of Dollywood and would love to go. And my cousins use her program that she started that sends free books to kids, for their child. She seemed like someone who spread joy and light to everyone she met. She will be missed, but we have her work and she’s probably performing in paradise.

ps. Did she really have a secret song that will get released on her 100th birthday?!

Yes she did. It is currently locked away at Dollywood on a CD. It is scheduled to be released on what would have been her 100th Birthday.

Re: Dolly Parton has passed away at age 80

She has been curating an extensive amount of projects including future albums so anything that is going to be released in the upcoming years, she was extensively involved with. Unfortunately, as expected, many will assume these will be cash grabs by her people unaware she has been working on these things for years. To many her passing was unexpected and sudden but many who follow her and her career have been aware of her declining health for years. Especially the past few weeks.

Dolly was one year older than me. Listening to this music on her 100th birthday is something that I intend to enjoy on what will be my 99th year on Planet Earth.

Re: Dolly Parton has passed away at age 80

I was trying to find "The Best Little Whorehouse..." on one of my streaming services this past weekend, but had no luck. Same for "Steel Magnolias". Lo and behold, "9 to 5" turned up on hulu.

Although I'm not certain of any intent in 1980 (e.g. foreshadowing of Parton in the role), there is a nice tribute to Dolly @ the movie's 3-minute mark. It's during the introduction of Lily Tomlin's character, Violet.

Violet is being instructed that she will need to train a new EE who will turn out to be Parton's character, Doralee.

Violet is wearing a belt with a buckle in the shape of a butterfly. At one point in the dialog, she uses her right hand to hold back her jacket and rest her fist on her right hip, which emphasizes the butterfly buckle. The buckle continues to be visible throughout Tomlin and Parton's first scene together.

In other news, I'm interested to see what might become of the Jennifer Aniston/Diablo Cody reimagining of the movie.

ABC had 9 to 5 on this weekend and CBS did a nice hour long tribute to her last night.

Never heard of that but just found it on my Roku TV (There is so much to wade through!). When I select it, it comes up as Vampire Movies.

Update: I had to add it to my Roku account via the Roku site on my chromebook. For whatever reason, It comes up Vampire Movies when I try to add it on my TV. Once added, I found the movie.

I think it’s safe to say many people love Dolly Parton and I am one as I have learned more about her recently. I also love Horrible Bosses! Both films but yeah, Aniston was hilarious!
