Posted: 7/16/04 at 8:24amThere is a chance that Dracula will begin previews on the friday night instead of the wednesday night.

Posted: 7/16/04 at 9:48amThey should just pack up while they can..... this isn't looking good.
re: Dracula Previews Postponed#2
Posted: 7/16/04 at 9:55amWhere does it say previews are pushed back til the 30th?? I just went onto draculaonbroadway.com and broadway.com, and both say the 28th.

BLH, that's a ridiculous statement. The show has an AMAZING amount of technical aspects and that is what's causing the delays. One wouldn't want a ride to open up before it was safe at a theme park (no I am not equating broadway being a theme park this time) so I don't see why when a show is delayed for technical reasons, people naturally assume it's in trouble. And believe me, if they opened, NOT having all the technical aspects in place, there'd be a ruckus to no end all over the internet.
It's the age-old discussion on whether or not someone is ill should call out sick or go on. Those who call out get reamed for being unprofessional or they get reamed for going on without being 100 percent.
Personally, I'm very happy that the cast and crew of Dracula are doing what they need to provide the quality of the production they wish to ultimately convey. I'll wait patiently...

Posted: 7/16/04 at 10:14amIt is also a relief that at least one shows producers have some common sense.
re: Dracula Previews Postponed#5
Posted: 7/16/04 at 12:47pmFYI, The first preview is STILL set for July 28th with no plans to delay that date. Consider this confirmation as fact...
re: Dracula Previews Postponed#6
Posted: 7/16/04 at 2:48pmI am very excited about Dracula. I got tixs for the first weekend in October. The first time I went to the box office, it was closed but the doors to the theater were open and I was talking to the guys setting up the stage. It is going to be cool. I tried again last weekend and the box office was open. I can't wait to see it!!!!!!!!

Postponements, postponements...gosh, you don't think the show'll SUCK do you?
Naw, there have been far worse shows on Broadway.
Like J&H and THE CIVIL WAR.
Note: PIMPERNEL was great!
re: Dracula Previews Postponed#8
Posted: 7/27/04 at 12:55pmCRAIG ----- What did you say about the first preview not being postponed from the 28th??
re: Dracula Previews Postponed#9
Posted: 7/27/04 at 1:01pmSchuyler, Craig responded to you to say that the show was beginning previews on July 28, as scheduled, which was the plan, prior to the water pipe breaking. As it happens, they are now starting on Thursday, July 29, so your initial post on this thread is STILL wrong.
re: Dracula Previews Postponed#10
Posted: 7/27/04 at 1:02pmJust because the show is having technical problems does not mean it is doomed. Titanic had major technical problems including after it went into previews and it went on to recieve the tony for best new musical and earn back the money that went into the show!

Posted: 7/27/04 at 1:04pmThanks Magruder for noticing that. Also, it should be noted that had they had their previews start on time, there could have been a very wet audience. Everything works out for the best and I hope the Belasco didn't suffer too much water damage...
re: Dracula Previews Postponed#12
Posted: 7/27/04 at 1:06pmLol, is the show cursed? Everytime it wants to show something happens... =)
re: Dracula Previews Postponed#13
Posted: 7/27/04 at 1:10pmThe show is not cursed at all. I have heard incredible things about all the technical aspects to the show. As I said earlier in this thread, that's what's causing the (needed) delay...
re: Dracula Previews Postponed#14
Posted: 7/27/04 at 1:10pmBetter safe than sorry, guys. The show is great and I'm sure everything will work out for the best.
re: Dracula Previews Postponed#15
Posted: 7/27/04 at 3:10pmI knew they couldn't start on time. I know what is going on at the theater with the special effects and the scenery and I know what shape the show is in. I guess Craig knows more about what is going on at the theater. They just finished running throug the show late last week.
re: Dracula Previews Postponed#16
Posted: 7/27/04 at 3:12pmWhat are "previews"? I always meant to ask this and I never have.
re: Dracula Previews Postponed#17
Posted: 7/27/04 at 3:28pmSchuyler, I'm not sure of your agenda, but to have finished running through the show late last week is nothing out of the ordinary. Some shows begin previews without even a decent dress rehearsal, or without a single 'run,' which Dracula WILL have.

Magruder,
If Schulyer REALLY knew what was going on in the theater, he wouldn't have the misinformation that he has. More importantly, if he did have inside information and/or was somehow tied to the production, it would be pretty foolish to violate the trust of his/her co-workers. I'm willing to give him/her the benefit of the doubt...
re: Dracula Previews Postponed#19
Posted: 7/27/04 at 3:53pmSo what special effects are there supposed to be besides the flying vampires? I guess there's thunder and fancy lighting but anything else poeple know of off hand? I'm getting very excited.

Posted: 7/27/04 at 4:10pmthough there are instances where people are talking out of school. Still, with the obstacles this show has had to overcome and the little glitches from the beginning, one wonders if the old GHOST at the Belasco is rearing its head and putting in a word about when/if the show will open. The theater's the thing :)

Posted: 7/27/04 at 4:25pmIn addition to the flying and the major set pieces, there are moving proscenium portals, and for lack of a better description, a moving set of curtains that iris in and out and reconfigure in different shapes, during the scene transitions, and sometimes during the middle of songs. The set also has an astonishing number of moving parts and trap doors. It requires precision for the safety of the actors, which is why the delays in previews have been no joking matter.

Posted: 7/27/04 at 4:28pmexactly macgruder. i would MUCH rather see previews delayed so that this cast is SAFE when I see the show rather than trying to rush and hustle and putting people in jeopardy. I am VERY mush looking forward to seeing this show.. and this SET!

Posted: 7/27/04 at 4:43pmSounds like an awsome set! I'll be patient.

Posted: 7/27/04 at 5:28pmI swear, I'm never going to get to see this show!
