Eve Best deserved a nomination.
Well that whole cast was nominated for Best Ensemble, so that's why she didn't get an individual nomination. Which makes me curious how they choose Best Ensemble? Is it a way to honor small casts? How do they decide to give one show Best Ensemble and then nominate say, three actors from a different show for single acting awards?

BIGGEST SURPRISES:
NO S. EPATHA MERKERSON for COME BACK, LITTLE SHEBA or the play itself for best revival - are the voters minds really THAT small? My god, Epatha acted ciricles around Francis McDormand.
Whatever-hoping the Tony's will get it right!
At least they didnt go CRAZY over Les Liaisons Dangereuses like the Outer Critics Circle did. Although, there is way too much "The Country Girl" love here for such a crappy production.

It has nothing to do with small casts.
It has to do with Best Ensemble casts.
IN THE HEIGHTS won last year.

So Laurents was left out for Director, ouch.
I think A CATERED AFFAIR and ADD1NG MACH1NE are truely most deserving.

The good - Xanadu's Cheyenne Jackson & Mary Testa
The bad - Sierra Bogguss over Kerry Butler?
The very bad - No Loretta Ables Sayer.
The ugly - Absolutely nothing for The Ritz?

I am happy with a lot of the choices but was sad that:
IS HE DEAD WAS OVERLOOKED.
THE RITZ.
JACKIE HOFFMAN
CHRIS GATELLI for SOUTH PACIFIC.
What happened to IS HE DEAD? And THE RITZ.
Congratulations to FORBIDDEN BROADWAY RUDE AWAKENING, THOUGH!

Just a personal shout-out to Maruti Evans for his nom for his SLAUGHTERHOUSE 5 lighting design.
I was the musical supervisor on the show. He's been doing spectacular work for years and I'm thrilled his gotte his second nom in a row. Congrats to him, and Joe Tantalo's Godlight Theatre Company for the nom!

How did Jim Norton get snubbed for a nomination?

Bustopher: pass. Again, at least he got the Olivier, though it would be nice to have seen Drama Desk recognition too.

As great as Daniel Evans was, I think a lot of people are underestimating the great Daniel Breaker, who in my mind, could easily win Best Actor at the Drama Desks. Not saying that Daniel Evans couldn't win, but, you never know...

I am "used to it", Foster, and I am expecting no Tony nominations. I thought at the very least Jimmi Simpson deserved recognition.

A Catered Affair may have chalked up a lot of nominations, but I don't think that means it's going to have a grand slam. Interesting that both YF and LM were more or less shuttered out.
Under the circumstances, I think (and hope) that Xanadu will score a major upset. IMO, it's the only musical this season that truly lives up to the term "musical comedy" and I think between the dreariness and downright boredom of some of the other nominees, it has served as a magical oasis throughout the season. Whatever the outcome, I will always remember it as one of the happiest evenings in my 55+ years of theatregoing. Huzzah!!!!

SNL, you are not alone. I'm also pulling for Jimmi Simpson to get a Tony nomination.

I'm sorry that Jim Norton didn't receive a nomination for Seafarer, but if they were only going to nominate one from that cast, Conleth Hill is the most deserving. At least in my opinion, which has never seemed to be with the majority on this one
If Seafarer had gotten 2, I'd have hoped for David Morse (who I also thought did a better job than Jim Norton)
I was surprised it wasn't nominated for Best Ensemble -- I thought that's where it REALLY shone

There are no "nominations" for Ensemble.
It's an award presented by the nominators.
HOMECOMING was more deserving, in my opinion. Every single one of those actors was award worthy. I can't same the same for every single cast member of THE SEAFARER.
