Drama League Awards 2026 on TDF

So are you saying Cats: The Jellicle Ball still has a chance here?

It bears repeating that CATS was not up for a lot of the undercard awards this year because they were deemed whole or in part eligible last year.

I expect CATS to walk off with AT LEAST three wins - Costumes, Choreography, and André de Shields. Ideally, they’ll pick up Direction and Revival.
"

What I'mworried about is how this will impact Catslong-term... right now tickets are on sale until September 6th but I think they really need some MAJOR awards love, and I fear if they don'twin for direction or revival that's going to be a problem
"

With the Broadway landscape the way it is, I can’t imagine theatre owners are looking to toss out tenants at the first sign ofbad sales (case in point - BEACHES), and there are a ton of limited run plays on their way out the door right as summer kicks off. Plus, as it stands, RAGTIME is closingon August 2nd regardless of what it wins - unless they opt for another extension.
"

I believe they will extend until the end of the year when RAGTIME takes the TONY for Best Revival!

Very doubtful..
"

Agreed. Theater fans off the street could literally buy tickets online and vote for the Drama Leagues. It’s definitely not the barometer of truth for the season.

Ragtime may win revival because of politics, but I don’t think any show will sweep the Tonys. It’s a meh season with touring house Tony voters at play. Should make for a very unpredictable evening all around.
"

Agree that RAGTIME will most likely take revival even though CATS is more deserving!
"

How/why has the consensus shifted after one award? I still think Cats has the edge
"

I think don’t realize how political Tonys are. Touring voters will vote for the show that will sell best in their market. It’s not about what’s deserving. It’s also how many co producers on a show vote for their own show.
Ragtime has already announced a tour. It has commercial edge though it’s not the most thought provoking revival.

"

Yes, of course it does. Why wouldn't it? Because it didn't win the Drama League award?

"

Exactly.  CATS will win the Tony.  The Drama League awards are hit or miss.  This win and for DeBessonet were misses.

"

Keep in mind that it was revealed about a decade ago that the touring voters only make up about 10% of the voting bloc.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Rocky Horror and Luke Evans win the Tony Awards, there’s a lot of love for them.

10% is a pretty significant number of people if voting on any particular award is fairly close, which this year it almost certainly will be on the major musical awards.

I feel like “road voter” myth has been debunked many times now. Plenty of things that don’t read as touring hits on paper have won musical and revival awards.

Not when Broadway new musicals are not making money and the 27-28 touring options are bleak. Trust me, the road voters have a vested interest in who wins. It’s why Lost Boys announced they plan to tour. That’s a signal that they are worth the vote.
