Dan - Hugh Jackman (obviously)
Diana - Idina Menzel (Her name is big enough now, and she could sing the sh!t out of it
Natalie - Vanessa Hudgens (Big name for younger audiences)
Gabe - Nick Jonas (Poster Boy for perfection, duh!)
Henry - Josh Hutcherson (not sure if he can sing, but Henry doesn't sing much anyway, plus I'm sure the "Hey" songs would be spoken, not sung in the movie)
Dr. Madden - Neil Patrick Harris (Would be a fun throw-back to Doogie Howser... and well, he's perfect)
Dr Fine - Maybe throw in a touch of comic relief and have someone like Jack Black make a cameo.
That's brilliant casting Evan! NPH would be fun throwback to Doogie. What about Eddie Redmayne as Gabe though? Too old for the part perhaps, or could he pass for being younger?
My Casting Choices for a Film Adaptation:
Diana Goodman: Anne Hathaway
Dan Goodman: Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Natalie Goodman: Charlotte Maltby
Gabriel "Gabe" Goodman: Jake Epstein
Henry: Corey Cott
Dr. Fine: Christian Borle
Dr. Madden: Sebastian Arcelus
I still think Kate Winslet or Naomi Watts would make one hell of a Diana, if they can sing anyway. Wasn't there a rumor a few years ago that Kate and Robert Downey Jr. were attached for a film adaptation?
Never got to see the original cast, but I did see this on the road and Alice should have let someone else do the tour, she was done.
I'd love to see Aaron Tveit come back as one of the doctors in a film adaptation.
What a weird thread
Either way, whoever was on the first national tour of the show was perfect, including and especially Alice Ripley.
^^^^^^
Fantod, there were days where Ripley was definitely not up to par, such as the day I saw her. I saw the matinee and Pearl Sun took over for the evening performance.
How long can someone play that intense a role?
Her voice was in disatrous shape, but her performance felt like it was being ripped from her. It remains the most powerful I've ever seen. I could not stop sobbing for virtually the entire performance. It drained me though just to see it. Of course, I also connected with the show on a very personal level and I recognized the honesty in her performance. It was like she wasn't even acting. That being said, I am glad I saw her on a good day.

NC Theater is doing the show in Raleigh in May. I heard that Lauren Kennedy may play Diana, but not officially confirmed. Based on other shows I've seen her in, I think she'd be great in this, so hoping it's true.
