I believe what we are doing here is making an observation and comparing the two sites. And you must admit that the general atmosphere (whether you partake in it or not) at ATC is a negative one. When there is an observation to be made on ATC, it is oftentimes made with a great deal of hatred. I recall several posts there sometime back where they were personally attacking someone and spreading rather vicious rumors about them, simply because this actor didn't sign a program after a performance. I have never seen that kind of behavior on these boards.
The observation has also been made that this board is far more supportive and encouraging. Also a point that cannot really be argued. Anytime I have ever seen something negative start (such as a personal attack), it is immediately stopped by someone popping in and saying "take it elsewhere."
In addition to all this, boards aside-when was the last time you saw TALKIN BROADWAY sponsor a concert for Broadway Cares or take a truly active part in supporting the theatrical community? I think Rob and Craig are truly trying to make the theatre community a nicer place to be, and for that, they should be encouraged, supported and thanked.

"the same as saying the audience of Wicked consists entirely of vapid teenage girls. Not true..."
Really? If they're not actual vapid teenage girls they are certainly indulging their INNER vapid teenage girls.
(FYI, that was typed without a soupcon of bitterness or vitriol.)

I went on that board once. And wether negative or positive I found no one had much of anything to say. So I have never been back.
Happy friday everyone! It's Mojito time.

It isn't that BroadwayWorld is free of negativity or bitchiness, but I generally find it a more friendly place than All That Chat. And seeing some ATC posters characterizing BroadwayWorld as nasty and bitchy made me want to respond, "Oh, REALLY?"

They're just jealous that the Pick-A-Little parody was about this site. "HEY! We pick a LOT! Why don't WE get a video?"
Truthfully, I am registered over there... when they migrated and we had to sign up again I did it. But I don't think I have ever logged in since. I simply forget to check that site and actually don't like that style of user interface.
The one over here is more to my taste.

Posted: 6/4/04 at 1:04pmIn the end, yes, I find it pretty funny that someone at ATC accused BWW of being vicious. As I said before, the tone here is considerably lighter. But I don't see why the two boards should be treated as enemy camps. They're just different, and unsurprisingly the regulars here like the atmosphere here better.

I have never posted there, either. Their format is so busy and hard to follow.
I am curious, though, to those here who post there also...
Do you use the same screen names?

This message board gets bitchy from time to time, but usually when someone (PrincessMimiChica's comments about not knowing who Julie Harris and Vanessa Redgrave come to mind) says something patently stupid. Kind of like the old French salons where they would trade ridicule...good fun. Never been to ATC, nor do I plan to..

Posted: 6/4/04 at 1:23pmI read both the All That Chat and BroadwayWorld.com message boards. Both have many bright, witty and wonderful posters. And both have their share of bitter and catty posters. I think it's silly pitting one against the other. If there are two scattered postings about BroadwayWorld.com at All That Chat that are ''hypocritical,'' is it any more ''hypocritical'' to have an entire thread (of 30-plus postings) at BroadwayWorld.com slamming All That Chat? Let's be grateful that both sites exist, and each of us can take away whatever we want from each, or both. In the end, we all have one thing in common: our passion for theater.

'nuff said on this topic I think. To each his/her own, and Wayman is right that it's unneccessary to pit one site against another. Everyone out there can make their own choices on where to read and post out there, and if you're here -- I'm glad.
