I just saw the DVD on sale for 13.99 is it worth buying?
Yes, absolutely. I've had it for a while now and I love it.

It's spelled "Stritch."
And it's a must-have for anyone with impeccable theatrical taste and who appreciates theatre legends.
But she's no Brooke Sheilds or Tamyra Gray.
I don't know much about her, will i be able to enjoy it?
findyourgrail: Im sure i made your night! anyhow...thanks for correcting me. And this is off topick...what did i do to you for you to hate me the way you do?

I never said I hated you.
Just the fact that you'd rather see IN MY LIFE over the brilliant and moving SWEENEY TODD or the fact that you'd rather listen to Mandy Moore over a theatre legends like Carol Channing or Chita Rivera who have more talent in their pinky fingers than Ms.Moore does in her whole body.
In which case I would advise against buying the DVD. No offense to you, just with your track record I don't think you'd enjoy it.

ok, I am not a fan of Mandy Moore or In my life. But yeah...I think some shows and some Broadway actors are overrated.

OK, anyone who considers the masterpiece revival of Sweeney Todd less worthy of watching than In My Life should stay away from Ms.Stritch. This woman is a legend, her show is probably the best one-woman show I've ever seen on the stage, unlike Chita's show the direction and the script were golden, you felt like you were getting drunk with Stritch. But if you think that Carol Channing and Chita Rivera are overrated, then you go and watch some American Idol.
I bought the DVD a few months ago and it rarely leaves my DVD player for very long. If I ever get tired of "The Ladies Who Lunch", it probably means I've been lobotomized.
It is a must have. I watch it whenever I have an awful day and it cheers me up.

On the short list of the greatest solo performances of the last several decades (along with Lena Horne and Lily Tomlin). A true tour de force and a masterclass on how to deliver a song and how to tell an anecdote. A must-have for anyone who cares about great performance and brilliant entertainment.

Margo said:"A must-have for anyone who cares about great performance and brilliant entertanment." As usual I agree with him, the problem is I don't think muscle23ftl is the kind of person that cares about great performance and brilliant entertainment.
I've seen it many, many times now - and I always get choked up during parts of the show. She's just brilliant - the whole show could not have been more perfect.
I adore her.
She's a genius. I can't see anyone not seeing or enjoying that.

One-woman shows will forever after be compared to this one-woman show. If you love theater at all, I don't see how you would be disappointed. The woman is theater.
It's a fantastic DVD of a fantastic show. Buy it!

A rather humurous and hypocritical statement coming from someone who clearly is a big fan of Spamalot.
Why are some people so nasty on this board? If this isn't something you would say directly to him if you just met the man, don't be tough about it because you are hiding behind a computer screen.
So, he has different tastes, and you disagree with him, why the need to criticize?
Sheesh, nothing like coming on to read some interesting conversation only to see personal bashing instead.
Yes, muscle, the DVD is worth purchasing.

Oasis, go buy yourself a clue.
At least the show I like wasn't critically panned and actually WON some Tonys. I think that gives me a little more of a leg to stand on than you.
AND I am a profound lover of the classics and of legendary performers like Elaine Stritch, who's performance brought me to tears.
I was merely saying that, due to muscle's tastes I don't think he would enjoy the DVD and was advising against wasting his money.
Next time, don't try to start a fight if you're not prepared. Because you'll lose.
BUY IT - The lady and the show are both amazing.
you know findyourgrail...it seems you only want to fight. Oasis is not starting a fight...but you are! all the time.
Buy, buy, buy! Ms. Stritch is nothing short of amazing. I had the honor of seeing her at The Cafe Carlyle at the end of January and have owned the "At Liberty" DVD for quite awhile. I have to agree with Margo, no one can get more out of a song or a story than Elaine.
Is there more behind the scenes stuff on the DVD than there is on that HBO special? I just taped it and was soooooo disappointed because there were few nuggets outside of the actual performance.
The DVD doesn't have any behind the scenes stuff.
Well.......darn.
About not knowing anything about her, the great this about this piece to me is you can know nothing of her before you see it and feel like her best friend by the end. It's 100% autobiographical. Such great stories!
