I have tickets for mid-May and received the below email this morning. I wonder what happened? This is very abrupt and clearly unplanned. Their website is still up (though the ticket portion is down) and they've turned off Instagram comments.
"Dearest Guest,
We Sincerely regret to inform you that due to unforeseen circumstances, the theatrical run of Life and Trust officially came to an end last night.
We apologize for the late notice and for the disappointment and inconvenience this has caused, and appreciate your understanding and support.
We will begin processing refunds immediately and you can reach us at refund@lifeandtrustnyc.com
Thank you in advance for your kindness and patience.
Life and Trust Box Office"
Edit: website has now been adjusted to say it closed on 4/19 and their Instagram has been scrubbed. Bizarre.
Wow!
I have zero insider knowledge, but the fact that it was this abrupt, with no press release, could indicate it's some dire issue with the building or with a contract. Any number of issues like a drastic rent increase, loss or change of liquor license, structural or utility issues with the building, etc. Or they suddenly discovered they were operating in violation of some contract and legally had to cease operation immediately.
If this simply closing due to low sales, this would be a downright bizarre way to end things. Would love to know what's truly going on.
They’ve been advertising heavily on social media in the last month- or, at least, I was part of the demographic being targeted. Very strange.
If they closed overnight there is obviously drama attached.
Ain't this the same company that didnt pay rent for over a year at Sleep No More? Sounds like they're just a shady group of individuals?
No doubt they are shady. However they poured about $100mil into this project and managed to drag Sleep No More through countless "final extensions," so it's interesting that they closed overnight with zero notice. Staff was apparently informed 1-hour prior to the ticketholder cancellation emails, and they've since scrubbed all of their social media presence.
Certainly sounds like they're getting sued/ facing some sort of legal action.
Sad for those involved, cast/crew wise.
The cast and crew may be suddenly out of work, but a healthy majority of them are probably just grateful to be free. Personal feelings on the show aside, it was allegedly a nightmare to mount and perform in/run. Good riddance to poorly managed, multi-million dollar endeavors like this that exploit their employees.

At first glance this sounds like it could be an assault/inappropriate conduct situation in the workplace.

If that was the case people would be getting fired / an investigation within the company would take place, that’s not something that would cause an entire production to close down abruptly with no notice.
According to social media, it looks like the cast and crew were entirely blindsided by this and remain in the dark about why it so abruptly shut down. I really can’t think of many situations that would require such an abrupt closure of this nature (particularly accompanied by a scrub of their social media).
The scrubbing of the social media definitely points towards some lawsuit or serious contract violation.
How awful for everyone in the cast and crew who woke up news that they were unemployed.
