I feel he is pretty close, but I kinda don't think TARZAN will win for lighting.
If it does DISNEY can push it as a TONY Award winning show.

SWEENY TODD should win for lighting, I don't understand how it wasn't even nominated.
I agree with nearly all of their predictions.

"SWEENY TODD should win for lighting, I don't understand how it wasn't even nominated."
I agree.

Posted: 6/2/06 at 2:16pmWell I beg to differ that Jersey Boys will take home best musical over Drowsy. And while it may be so that LuPone is going to take home the Tony, LaChanze should have been included as a spoiler.

Yup, those predictions are not far from my own.
Agreed about Sweeney's lighting. Boo.

After seeing it last night, I agree Tarzan should win for lighting. Though, Sweeney should have been nominated.
And...ulgh, I guess they're right...but I don't understand why I feel so alone in thinking TCP deserves some awards--if not for show, definitely for at least of the actresses.

Maybe The Color Purple is cursed, haha.
It got 11 Oscar nominations. 11 Tony nominations.
Oprah Winfrey attached. Oprah Winfrey attached.
0 Oscars. 0 Tonys?

The predictions for best musical and best leading actor that they posted are actually what I'm predicting. Jersey Boys taking Best Musical and John Lloyd Young winning Best Leading Actor.

Posted: 6/2/06 at 3:22pmLOL to the LuPone tuba theory. I believe the same thing myself. As Blucat500 so aptly put it, "Betchya LaChanze can't play the tuba!" and there you have it.

THE COLOR PURPLE was a brilliant movie. The music is barely mediocre.
THE COLOR PURPLE lost the Oscars (undeservingly) to another fantastic film, also deserving of praise.

HeyMrMusic--
Also, in both cases, the director was not nominated!

Posted: 6/2/06 at 3:25pmI just have a gut feeling that LaChanze or Kelli will surpass Patti in votes...
#16re: Entertainment Weekly's Tony picks
Posted: 6/2/06 at 3:26pmChristian Hoff?! Are they serious? If anything Jim Dale and Mano should be the two.
#17re: Entertainment Weekly's Tony picks

Yeah, I strongly disagree with their projection of Hoff.
I also don't think JERSEY BOYS will win.
I think Patti is a lock...La Chanze is no competition.

I'm also frightened by the closeness of their predictions to my own. In fact, most of my 2nd choices are also theirs.

Same here.
I think this year is very cut and dry. There will be no surprises.
#20re: Entertainment Weekly's Tony picks
Posted: 6/2/06 at 3:32pmHopefully there will be surprises at the Tony Awards.

There's usually always one or two, Muscle, but I think EW got it pretty much on the money. In the big categories, expect nothing surprising.
I think Musical, Play, all the acting categories, Directors, and Book and Score are the locks everyone generally thinks they are.

EW favors Jersey Boys. Notice how they preditcted it for almoust every award.
Also The Color Purple 11 Oscar Nominations not one for Best Director though
The Color Purple 11 Tony Nominations not one for Best Director though

Posted: 6/2/06 at 3:38pmIt is just so boring to know who's gonna win. It turns the Tony Awards into something too predictible. What's the point of watching them anymore? Last year, Bill Irwin was the only surprise.
