They're trying to book a tour, but to the best of my knowledge, it is still just a plan at this point. And I agree, I think it won't sell well and could kill chances for a transfer. Probably better to just do an out-of-town tryout or two and then try for a transfer.
Considering that the film has repeatedly been pulled from release with no reason given for the delay, I think the writing's on the wall. It's not gonna' go any further.
I enjoyed it on the West End and I've loved the recording, but a "Billy Elliott as Drag Queen" ain't gonna' go far in the US, when the actual Billy Elliott tour didn't meet expectations. Add in the Northern accents and lingo and its fate isn't bright. (I missed about 20% of the dialog - I understood what was being communicated, but I missed many of the words).

It's been pulled from release because it's a British film and very well known there and British cinemas are all closed atm and for the foreseeable future. It'll be no doubt held back until everything is back to normal.
Didn't see the Broadway Cast Reunion stream but prior to Covid I know that a popular presenting organization in Brooklyn was looking to bring it over. Wonder if it's still in the pipeline.
My brother, who is straight, and I loved that show in London. I think it could be a big hit on BWAY with the right cast. It is a very entertaining and upbeat show with great music. And a great showcase for a young and talented drag performer.
