Well I have a feeling this post is going to make several of you feel bad for harping on poor Mary Tyler Moore. Apparently she fell (tripped over her dog) and her face is swollen because of the incident but she wanted to be there to support her friend, Bernadette. So maybe we should stop the MTM bashing for a bit.
I've only read the dog was responsible for the swollen face. I have no information on the cause of the other issues of the evening. But as an animal lover, I beg you all, let's not blame the dog. I'm sure he has better taste than that.

She doesn't look swollen. She looks shiny and plasticy. To be fair, though, I think BWW has some kind of edict that they need to take and publish the absolute worst pictures of celebrities they can.
What kind of touchy-feely liberal crap is going on here?
Now all I can picture is Mary Tyler Moore tripping over her dog like Dick Van Dyke used to trip over their ottoman.
She needs to be careful not to trip. If she screams those staples will come flying out of her face and could really hurt someone. Or the dog!
Didn't Kevin Space trip over his dog?
Are we saying MTM is a lesbian?
I didn't know she prefered the company of women but it would make sense with that haircut.
Ok, the dog story makes sense. I just looked for recent pictures of her and the left side of her face was not that swollen. Hope she is ok.
Maybe I'm losing my mind, but that hat that Colleen Fitzpatrick is wearing...isn't that part of Regine's old costume??

<----- It's certainly similar...
Looks like Regine's headpiece, and I think Colleen went on 3 times in DC for Regine

"Thanks for the reviews of the original production.
Walter Kerr and Clive Barnes: two astute critics, sans agendas. Too bad we lack their like today. "
Didn't Everything Was Possible say Clive Barnes fell asleep midway through watching the show? Or am I confusing him with someone else...
Walter Kerr was an astute critic who never made sarcastic remarks at the expense of the show he was reviewing. Clive Barnes was another matter. His background was as a dance critic and he often gave very opinionated views of the shows. It would not surprise me if he went to sleep during the press performance of FOLLIES. I had a friend who worked for the Times as a photography editor, and he told me that Barnes would frequently be asleep at his desk, hung over. And yet the power he wielded was enormous. I am not sorry that he is no longer at the Times.

I believe the anecdote (which I still think was in Everything Was possible, but can't check right now, so could be way off) also mentioned he was drunk. I do admit to enjoying some of his collected essays on dance reprinted in book form.

If he did, the show's to blame.

Clive Barnes has said that falling asleep during a performance is a perfectly legitimate critical response.
So is thinking that Clives Barnes was a fat closeted idiot.

PJ, didn't say I approved!
Thoughts on Feingold's review?
For me, Feingold could have cut 3/4 of his "review".

Love Feingold, but he just wrote a set of Liner Notes, not a review.
According to Riedel, the production may recoup, but it can't extend.
