So incredibly thrilled by these reviews, particularly Brantley's. Night: made.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HAPPY!
Michael Musto of the Village Voice liked the 2001 revival better: http://blogs.villagevoice.com/dailymusto/2011/09/follies_is_back.php
NY Magazine is mixed, but it the end he recommends it: http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2011/09/theater_review_reviving_an_old.html
Bloomberg says Raines steals the show more than Maxwell (but still loves it): http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-09-13/-follies-dazzles-sweet-and-sad-hemingway-marathon-review.html
NY Post is Mixed

We need more mixed/negative reviews so that people can start to freak out a bit. All positive is no fun around here.

There should be something deeply moving in seeing the women struggling to remember and execute the old lines and steps. But the emphasis is on how well the old gals perform, making the number celebratory.
These subsequent revivals have added the 'missteps' etc. The bolded sentence would describe the original choreography and intent of the number. He seems a little confused.

Much to may amazement, Jones actually might be correct in his usage of "twin lonely cactus."
It jarred against my ears so much that I had to pull out the dictionary where Merriam's gives three acceptable plurals: cacti, cactuses, and cactus.
Live and learn.
I love you Matthew, see you in hell!

Will Jan Maxwell be putting Tonys in her bag again this spring after these reviews?
Favorite review in a nutshell courtesy of Mr. Scott Brown of NY Magazine:
"Follies is the disease and the cure in one package: I'd advise you to catch it."
I love Scott Brown's reviews more each time he reviews.
Matthew Murray is who we might all become...if we're not careful: someone who is incapable of seeing the good in anything. The better something is, the more fodder it is for his deconstructions. If something succeeds in being one flavor. he simply analyzes why it isn't another. His reviews are not right; they are merely negative. They are not insightful; they are merely incisive. They are not right; they are just sad.
If we all are not careful, we will grow up to be Matthew Murrays, writing bitchy theater reviews for talkinbroadway.com.
Kids, don't let that happen to you.

If she does, it will be her first. She's 0 for 4 right now with Tony wins.

I'm not a great fan of Matthew Murray, but there were many accurate observations in his review.
As for the other reviews, they were exactly as one would expect.
My review of this review thread is 2 out of 5 stars. No real standout performances. Everything proceeded calmly to a predictable finish. Such a disappointment.
What the hell is wrong with you people? You must have blown your energy in the 3,000 "preview" threads.
EDIT: Although I do give a shout out to the handwringing over Buddy's last name. But really, is that the best you can do?
It would be nice for Jan Maxwell to finally have a Tony of her own to put in her bag.
As long as she leaves room for the stolen ones from the ceremony.
Coming up next ... Jan Maxwell as Fagin.
Note to producers:
Brantley didn't like your leading lady out of town or off-Broadway? Put her in a new wig and he'll change his tune, by god!
Or a new dress, in this case.
If she does, it will be her first. She's 0 for 4 right now with Tony wins.
I'm completely aware of that. I was referencing that fun thread from a couple of years ago.
Most people probably don't remember that thread because Jan put it in her bag, as well.
Who's seen the opening night photos? Geez, they really caught some people looking their worst. I'm pretty sure Mary Tyler Moore is no longer a human woman.
I can't tell if it's the lighting or the photography or the camera they're using, but they manage to make even the 20-somethings look 50-ish nearly every time there's a red-carpet shoot.
And gorgeous Mary Beth Piel looks like she just passed the borders of Shangri-La. What the hell?!
They're not doing anybody any favors by shooting it this way.

I liked this thread better when everyone was sniping about the Chicago Tribune review, even though it was a rave.

Colleen Fitzpatrick's hat is something else.
