It's been limping for ages. No doubt they already had their kick back from the success of the 2nd movie and now it's time to let it die x

I wonder if Disney will cancel the Papermill production, too? Or if they plan to send it straight to Broadway for 2021-2022 season?"
As of right now, none of it is happening.

Beetlejuice to the St . James ????"
I don’t think that is true."
It has Buena Vista Theatricals as a producer since Disney owns Fox Films now ... Don't think it will be a "Disney on Broadway show " but they are producing ...
"
Buena Vista is not a producer on Mrs. Doubtfire. It’s just presented with a special arrangement with Buena Vista.

So they might not have been losing money, but Disney probably decided it was just a good opportunity to cut things lose, focus their resources on something else (as many have said).
Regardless, it is upsetting. I was hoping to catch the new cast at some point. And it's too bad that they barely got to perform. Hoping them the best.

And if I recall correctly, the show wasn't doing so hot a few months back. Wasn't the balcony closed for a few performances?

^^That, but also I responded earlier, that it was going to close anyway for BntB. Guess they just thought there's no point in keeping Frozen right now.

Ohhh. As of right now , it looks like MD is safe and they are pushing it hard. Company is still having rehearsals virtually and there was the big NYT article last week

I'm stunned to see this news. But thankfully we still have the tour and international productions coming up. Hopefully the tour cast stays intact because I thought they were terrific.
I hope the BATB revival rumors are true.

That being said, all the best to the cast and crew.

Shocked this is the first major casualty (publicly) but Frozen got a life far longer than it should've. Very sad for the new cast that got totally screwed but the fact they didn't close the show in February was wild to me.

I'm wondering what, if anything, this portends for Harry Potter. It's grosses had slipped a lot. But, the investment was huge and tough to walk away from if HP was not losing money per show. I don't know that the Frozen audience would switch over to HP - especially with the two show investment.

It looks like the Aida tour postponed or cancelled as well. They've just backed out of the Summer 2021 stop at Bass Hall in Fort Worth, Texas.

Who knows. It costs 2 pesos to run and it's become the Weisslers' only reason to get up in the morning.

I’m sorry that all those people have lost their jobs, but it’s not a good show.

Call_me_jorge said: "Honestly, this is shocking. If a Disney show can’t survive no one is safe. So sorry for the entire cast and crew. Especially Ciara, who seems to have bad luck when being employed by Disney."
Is this really shocking? I mean, I know the pandemic definitely didn't help, but must we attribute everything to it and create more dread. Wasn't Frozen sagging at the box office for quite some time and got a little boost with the sequel hitting theatres. I think its impotence was very apparent after the initial rush of sales and mediocre reviews. If Disney truly wanted to save it, they have the pockets. This gives them a perfect excuse to pull the plug.

What happened to The Muppets on Broadway ? Watched the original 1979 movie the other day then looked up if there was ever a musical in the works and I was surprised to find out it's been in the works since the 70s and was always Jim Henson 's dream . There apparently was a "presentation " at the New Amsterdam in 2013. Last thing I could find on here was in 2017 that it was still in the works and Anderson/Lopez wrote new songs .

Jordan Catalano said: "FROZEN is still scheduled to open on the West End later this year."
I was trying to figure that out, the NYT article suggested it will not be, but might've only been referring to currently running productions:
Schumacher said the company remains committed to “The Lion King” and “Aladdin” on Broadway, to “The Lion King” and “Mary Poppins” in London’s West End, and to touring productions of “The Lion King” and “Frozen” in North America and “The Lion King” in Britain.

Mr Roxy said: "Wonder if Phantom will ultimately survives. Disney has deep pockets so this is,a shot across everyones bow."
They dont have deep pockets. They are losing billions. Almost all their revenue streams have stopped, and they have also made some big purchases recently. Disney Plus is pretty much their only major form of income at the moment.
This is an easy decision for them really. it wasnt making much money for them and they can save more money by using the set elsewhere (if the overseas productions do eventually open). Disney will be making tough decisions in the coming weeks and months.
