A London theatre pal says the show will return to the West End this Fall, staring James Corden... I think it's a good part for him though I know that's an unpopular opinion these days.
Wasn’t this very close to materializing after ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS, but Corden went the talk show route instead?

And thank god
Has Corden done anything since his talk show ended? All of his movies were busts and I think, in general, he's not viewed as being that funny anymore.

Yeah there's been an anti-Corden sentiment for whatever reason in pop culture, but I've always liked him and think he'd be good in Forum. The right part could easily rebrand his image in a positive direction.

He starred in The Consituent last summer at the Old Vic. Great performance in a mediocre play with incredibly discombobulating scene changes.

I think it was mostly just overexposure during the talk show days. Say what you want, but he really reinvigorated late night in a way, with segments like Carpool Karaoke and Crosswalk Musicals - even if you found them grating, they were mainstream watercooler moments.
And FWIW, his performance in One Man… was a masterclass in comedy.
Strange timing, but sounds like he’s readying for a Broadway revival of ART.

He was also put in a lot of movies where he was arguably miscast. His brand of comedic performance didn't fit in Into the Woods (although his performance there wasn't necessarily bad) and he was flat-out annoying in The Prom and Cats.
I think his acting is better suited to live theatre where he can feed off of the energy of his audience. In movies, he often seems to be reaching for laughs, which can get grating.

I can't deny he is somewhat talented but since way back to him being in The History Boys his reputation has preceded his behavior as being very rude and arrogant to people in the service industry. Which finally caught up to him with his being called out at Balthazar back in 2022.

That news is tortuous enough, but it's being directed (blocked) by Scott Ellis too? Really hard pass.
This is the ART revival that Alec Baldwin was trying to do, word of it popped up early last season. I suspected they would never be able to insure Baldwin and he wasn't ever going to happen. But...Baldwin to Corden is quite the downgrade. And any other actor who signs onto it is going to have to constantly field questions from the press about "So is James mean to you?"
